Nope want to avoid third party products as much as possible (they have issues as well), nor do I want to learn another product. Best proven within the Cake environment. If somebody has steps please throw 'em, if anything this will demonstrate this is a specific Sonar issue. Cheers...

Alex, it sounds to me that the bug Foster Mansfield is running into is the MIDI crosstalk bug mentioned in other threads. He is seeing MIDI showing up in tracks it should not. If that is the case, it is possible to repro with only CW products, jut a little bit more involved. See this thread where I have steps to repro with CW-only products.

It is easier to repro with 3rd party plugins though. Simply set up any arp type plugin that sends MIDI out (even Jamstix with the Enable MIDI Output set to true will repro it). After you have that plugin feeding MIDI events into another soft synth, try to record MIDI on a completely unrelated track from an external MIDI controller. You will find the arp MIDI events being nicely mixed in with your external MIDI keyboard events on that track you were recording on.

Well done that man - let me know if you can reproduce or not when you can... thanks...

Below is the bug report I submitted a few months back about the playlist problems. It behaves exactly the same as it has in all versions of X3 including X3d. It functioned like it should in X2 except that the columns did not hold their positions when saved. They fixed that in X3, but it broke the playlist's functionality.

Name:Cody HaleProduct:SONAR ProducerVersion:X3bStatus:Submitted to DevelopmentSummary:Playlist Bugs in regards to "keep the playlist on top of other views" buttonDescription:
  1. Go to File - New - select "Play List Set"
  2. Add songs to the playlist - these can contain midi and/or audio
  3. Hit "W" key and select "Wait for Keypress" for each of the songs
  4. Hit "T" key to activate "keep the playlist on top of other views" button
  5. Hit the spacebar to start the first song
  6. Dialog box comes up and asks "Start Next Song"
  7. Let it play through the song, and when it ends the "Start Next Song" dialog box opens
  8. Hit spacebar to play the next song
Expected Results:The next song should IMMEDIATELY play.Actual Results:The song does not play, but a series of loading the following song(s)and highlightings of the playlist and songs commences. Then it settles down with a blank "Now Time" screen and just sits there. Hitting the spacebar AGAIN will then play the song. This is definitely a bug. It looks like in the loading of the following song and giving the attention back to the playlist confuses the program and it doesn't know what to do until you hit the spacebar AGAIN. I've reproduced this on three machines.I use the playlist for live productions and not being able to fire the songs on cue is a literal show stopper. Disabling the "Keep playlist on top of other views" button will allow it to work like it should but then the "N" key (which I use a lot)won't work because the focus is on the song, not the playlist. Also in this mode the scrolling timeline doesn't display, which doesn't allow us to see exactly where we are in the song. I am grateful however for the fact that you've fixed the playlist so that it remembers its layout when re-opened. But now it's unusable. I LOVE X3!!! and hope that this fix shows up in the next update.Provided Specs:intel core i7 8 gigs ramAudio 1:RolandAudio 2:octacaptureDriver Mode:ASIOOperating System:Windows 7 64-bitReproducibility:Reproducible

I suggest you copy and paste what you have written here and log the issue again in problem reporter saying it is reproducible in X3D if this still concerns you, i.e. with steps on the how it behaves now with X3D which may be the same (and enclose the old issue number) in order to bring this to Cakes attention again (avoid the large letters I suggest it puts people off).

Thanks

Alex

The report is still active. There was no notification that we resolved this with X3d. Re-logging is just going to result in us closing it out as a duplicate. It doesn't mean we don't care about the issue, it just didn't make it into this update unfortunately.

Why don't you try and help somebody in the forums yourself rather than stand around the sidelines and comment?
I apologise the QOS is not good enough for you, do you think I work for Cake or something? (Would you like to sponsor me, I can send you a PalPal link).
Reproduce it yourself if you like!!!

Cheers.

Noel can you clarify whether the MIDI output crosstalk into other tracks bug has been fixed? You mentioned in another thread that it was fixed but we are now seeing reports that it still reproduces in X3d.

Hi SilkTone,

The two items in this topic that I'm aware of getting resolved with X3d are the following:

- Resolved a crash when using two instances of Catanya sending VSTi MIDI Out to SONAR (CWBRN-22141)
- Resolved an issue where moving clips on a Simple Instrument Track would reassign the tracks MIDI input from a VSTi MIDI Output ports to all hardware MIDI ports

The second one on that list was actually pretty bad, since it gave the impression there was crosstalk since inputs were getting remapped behind the scenes when moving clips around.

The other note I'm seeing (not sure this is clearly identified in our update notes) is the fix Noel is referring to, which was a fix for the video SwampTooth uploaded, discussed in this thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/enable-midi-out-soft-synth-confusion-now-with-video-comparison-to-studio-one_-m2807089.aspx

I do see a report still open in regards to potential stuck notes with MIDI VSTi Outs.

As always, if people are experiencing problems the best bet is to start a new thread and list as many details as possible. Master threads like this are very difficult for us to keep up with.
