Why bother with Sonar then, or are you here just to get us to feel as cynical as yourself?

Actually I stopped using this "professional" DAW about two years ago due to these issues. Believe it or not I would prefer to use Sonar as opposed to another DAW because I've been using "Twelve Tone" software for over 20 years now, except for the last two years when I just got tired of these issues. Since I did invest a lot of money into Sonar by endlessly paying for upgrades based on empty promises that these issues would be fixed, I think I have a right to bring these issues up in the hope someone at CW can figure these bugs out and fix them.

This thread is about a new release and bugs fixed in it, right? So I can't bring this issue up? I know I know, I'm supposed to give high-fives just like everybody else around here, sorry...

To those people complaining about my posts, I have a serious question for you...

Everyone has some set of Sonar bugs that they wish could get fixed. In most cases they are just annoyances and there are ways to work around them. But now imagine there are a few bugs in Sonar that absolutely prevents you from using it altogether, what would you say? Nothing? Now imagine that goes on for 5 years. Now what would you say?

Way to rain on the good vibe parade Silktone.

From reading the fixes in the c patch they did a lot of work getting rid of "old" bugs.
Not to mention all the other dexes in the other patches. Really, wouldn't it be nice if you waited for the patch to come out before condemning it?

I appreciate though your heart, believe me I understand... but please please hang on, humans work very, very hard, on software not robots . Bad timing! Please allow Cake to start again, process will not happen overnight and it might actually be several years before previous wrongs get put right (if that's an appropriate way to put it). X3D patch though I suspect will be a step forward...

We still both have brilliant working DAW software (well apart from take lanes hahaha - sorry, next week or X3E maybe)...

Boy, i sure hope they "fixed" the track view scrolling with the mouse wheel. Just like it was in X2.

I hope the chord track and Intelligent Composing Assistant ala Cubase 7 gets its way in Sonar X3d so as I don't have to purchase another software just for this. I know Santa lurks where Cakewalk software division is located so I am really crossing my fingers :)

Agreed accept for the part about both having working DAWs. Sonar is not in a functional state for me right now, hence why I have been using a different DAW for the last two years. Do you realize how many releases and patches has come and gone since I initially reported this issue to CW 5 years ago (and more than 20,000 reports ago)? I believe the number of releases/patches is somewhere between 20 and 30 right now. It really is hard to stay positive given this, especially when I realize that in all that time of working with CW on this issue, it turns out I was pretty much just talking to myself.

EDIT: And believe me, I am keeping my fingers crossed that this issue gets fixed. I'd much rather be using Sonar than complaining about it. I'm hoping for a miracle here, especially now that I've been told that Ryan has done wonders in the past for getting things resolved. Just trying not to get my hopes up to an unrealistic level. Hoping for the best but expecting the usual.

Silkwood, I am genuinely curious about which bugs would TOTALLY prevent you from using Sonar? If you don't mind me saying it all sounds a bit dramatic. I am genuinely prepared to be enlightened. However, if I ever encountered such a situation, I would not keep paying for upgrades for years without checking that whatever 'showstopper' bug or bugs were resolved before shelling out....

Garry, this issue has been rehashed endlessly (if you want to see the gory details, read this thread). The short version is that if you rely on VSTi plugins that send MIDI events out, you will get crosstalk into other tracks when you record on them (say from an external MIDI controller). In addition, if you have more than 1 VSTi sending MIDI events out, Sonar will crash. There are no workarounds for these two issues. I absolutely rely on more than one VSTi sending MIDI events out, and since Sonar can't handle this I'm forced to use another DAW that can.

any danger of a demo version yet?

We'll have more info on demo coming soon. Obviously, we want it to be based on SONAR X3d.
