Lord Tim
Hey guys - first up, I just wanted to say a huge thanks for the great comments on the last song I put up. Both myself and my partner in crime on that song, Chris Brooks, were blown away. Cheers!

Well, we're back together with another one, this time a blues based one called Two Blue. A little less cheese than the last one but really cool to do something a bit different to what we're both known for in our respective circles.

Chris' solo starts at about 2:00 and you should be able to tell who is doing what after that - his tone is distinctively different to mine.

OK, so some details for those that care about that kind of thing:

It was recorded entirely in SPlat, Addictive Drums 2, extensive use of the Console Emulator and Tape Sim in the Pro Channel. Apart from a couple of favourite third-party plugins (which, honestly, I could probably substitute for native SONAR plugins if I spent a bit of time replicating them), this was pretty much SONAR out of the box.

Guitar wise, I used my signature ESP LT-27 which has Seymour Duncan pickups; a Custom 5 in the bridge and Hot Rails in the neck. All of that twangy strat/tele stuff was split coil bridge+neck position. Not quite what you'd expect from a more hard rock / heavy metal geared instrument, but it's definitely versatile! I was running into Pod Farm 2.5, using a patch based on a Soldano.

Chris was once again running into a Kemper with his Charvel SoCal, with Duncan Distortion pickups. I used to have a Duncan Distortion in my first ever custom guitar which I helped build, and I never thought you could get the sort of glassy blues tones out of it that he did on this. Mind = blown! HAHA!

Anyway, hope you guys like it.

I'm slowly working my way though the forum here and checking things out, and man... some seriously creative and talented people lurking around, that's for sure! Great stuff!

What can I say?

You obviously know what you're doing Tim, so I'm just going to say, great tones, great playing, and nice tune to boot.

Tim,

Nice track, love this kind of blues.  Not only are your tones different but your styles are very different as well.   I like the variety in the playing styles throughout the song.  Keeps it all very interesting, which can be difficult in an instrumental piece.   Well done.

Regards

Cheers, guys! :)

Question: what version of SONAR are we all running? Just had a thought that it might be fun doing a song using only included plugins and uploading the project for you guys to have at it. Obviously you'd need SPlat to get stuff like TH2 or AD2 and some of the Pro Channel modules, so I'm curious to see what most people here use.

Very nice work LT, and Chris too, of course! While I was on your site, I took a look at your vids on your signature ESP. Looks(and sounds) like a beast of a guitar! You seem like a real cool, humble guy, not like one would expect, having their own signature guitar and being able to tear it up the way you do. By the way, to answer your question, I'm using Splat.

Hey, Tim,

You've got a fantastic blues rock instrumental here with phenomenal playing by both you and Chris, stellar guitar tone, and a clean, wide, punchy, modern sounding mix!

Top shelf, pro level all the way.  Dynamite stuff, thanks for sharing!

Best Wishes,
Bob

Cheers again, guys! I really appreciate it!

@Leadfoot - yeah, the guitar is fantastic. It's amazing to think they did retail copies of it aside from my own one - pretty blown away. I'm a die-hard ESP Guitars fan so for them to make me one... yeah, not very sad about that! HAHA!

Just thinking further to my comment about doing a SONAR "out of the box" mix. I tried remixing a LORD song over the last couple of days using SONAR-only plugs. It's not too bad at all, but seriously frustrating not having my go-to tools to do things, and while 99% of what's included is great, there's still a couple of things (Drumagog and a good mastering limiter for one) that I don't think cut it quite yet out of the box. But I'll keep working and get something up soon, including the project files.

That is a big mix...

Once again, love the performance and tone from both of you!   Very inspiring.   Many of the lines and runs are really really cool.  Pro all the way - fluid and with such great control, and at times I hear shades of Vai.   I don't know that I'd think of this as blues, but who cares what you call it - it's just great music.
