Friends,

Nothing to do with software or anything relevant here. Mods may knee jerk shuffle this post off to some obscure location if not delete entirely.

Was obsessing over installing a point update for a delay unit. Big struggle and wondering what could be worse.

Saw a CNN picture of a refugee boat sinking and human beings drowning. If they survive, will at least have a few fragments of the wet clothes on their backs. Young kids and babies drowned outright.

Made my software tribulations insignificant in the bigger picture.

Feel helpless to do anything that will make a difference.

I think that's quite relevant to software. And hardware, and music, and smartphones and technology in general.

I've never had any illusions about the importance of what I do for a living, even if my users sometimes act as if it's life-and-death.

P.S. The Coffee House isn't exactly an obscure location. You should visit it sometime. Many of us spend way too much time there.

Right you are. Most of our trials and tribulations...even ones we consider monumental...are pathetically trivial compared to many, many folk's daily problems in trying to just "exist" from day to day the world over. There is no getting around that in so many ways we are nothing but a bunch of self-centered babies whining day in and day out about the most trivial of issues. That said...why do I still get clicks and pops after upgrading to Win 10???

Ol Pal,

Clicks and pops me too after win 10 upgrade, but found the problem and fixed it.

Seems the CPU was throttled back to 10% power by default, likely to save on heat but severely limits fire power.

The processors are made to handle a bigger load, so go into the power options and into the advanced settings. I set the computer from 10% to 50% on the max end and the static is gone. Had been blaming it on USB 2. I'd put a post on the hardware forum a month or so ago with a link to a small program that adds another control to the power settings to fine tune things further.

Heavy stuff there.  I spent the last 40 years of my life as an ordained clergyman and licensed psychologist.  I saw a lot of life and death and human suffering up close.  There is a lot of pain out there.  What always fascinated me was how often people seemed incapable of grasping the urgency of the great issues of life and, instead, focused on absolute trivia.  It sounds like you have the ability to see what truly matters.  It's blessing and a curse.  Sometimes it's a hard thing having a heart.  God bless ya.

You have a point. Quite strange how most people are empathically affected by pain and disaster, yet don't act on it apart from sending money. The way I see it, we need a more interactive platform in real life, people helping out and supporting each other in dire times. Seems that should be the essence of community building.

Most of these problems are the result of the American War Machine. After all they have to have war to employ all the people in all the gun and bomb factories. The middle east is the dumping ground for the military industrial complex.
