I thought you were leaving?

Hello will you stop trolling the OPs thread we are trying to help him, this thread isn't about your vendetta against me. Are you going to do this on every thread I post now? Do I really have to report you to the mods?

I used a Soundblaster card for years until I got my current PC :-)

Things were so simple in those days - even if they did sound a bit crap! Though I did have a sfz set called Cadenza which had passable orchestral sounds

I'm not sure they were. I think we have a tendency to forget the worst.. I vaguely remember the drivers sucking for a while on that lol! Yeah maybe a better idea to ditch the PC and buy a Hammond!! :)

I've been seriously considering picking up my guitar again!

I tried WASAPI and couldn't get any sound out at all so went back to ASIO4All - maybe I had the wrong settings in the audio setting dialogue but tried a few and gave up

Not a fan at all of ASIO4ALL !

Me neither. Its too unpredictable. I've seen it work solid on one laptop and crash and burn on another laptop.
Noel worked with Microsoft on the WASAPI API driver for use in Sonar for a good reason....
Because ASIO4ALL is unpredictable. If it wasn't, Cakewalk would have publically suggested it rather than updating WASAPI API.

Maybe im missing something but WASAPI being 1.5 milliseconds is unnoticeable.

You'll need an Audio interface if you want good results
You can get a decent one now a days for under a 100 bucks.
I've always been a firm believer in, if you want good sounding recordings (at least with stringed instruments)
Get a separate soundcard (USB/ASIO) Guitar is my main instrument next to vocals so I need a good unit.
I like good Mic Pres with loots of inputs and outputs (so I can run an analog board) so choose the cheap route and bought a Focusrite 1820.

Once I've got the current issues sorted I'll have another look at WASAPI - I don't think the audio driver is the cause of any of my current issues - apart from perhaps the horrendous noise mentioned in my original post but that hasn't happened again yet!
