apart from perhaps the horrendous noise mentioned in my original post but that hasn't happened again yet!



Ive gotten the same noise from using ASIO4ALL. It's either a high pierced screech or a motorboat noise which leaves it unusable. A few times it was because I didn't disable my onboard soundcard. But after a while, it didn't seem to matter. Something became corrupt. that's why I say ASIO4ALL can be unstable.

Ah that's interesting. Sounds similar. I don't think I've disabled my on board card so I'll have to do that as a first step then explore WASAPI

Though if I disable on board sound will I lose sound for other stuff eg Spotify, Chrome etc - or can I just disable in HS

And I'm not getting something here..." disable your on board sound card???" But he using his on board sound card!  
 
 Please re read the OP's posts. At no point do they say the audio driver isn't working.
