I just got Geist and been using it with X3c without issue so far. I have a friend who is running X1d and wanted to see if they would be able to use it so did a quick test on my end for them. A short while ago I opened X1d and threw in Geist as a simple instrument track, armed it, recorded, and none of the MIDI notes from Geist took. Geist played fine, and I had just done this in X3c so am rather baffled. This is probably something simple, but I am too tired to realize what it is. Any suggestions?

When you create a simple instrument track, the MIDI side of it is configured to accept input from your controller, not the synth. And its output is sent to the synth. It's there for sending MIDI to the synth, not the other way around.

You need to load Geist into the synth rack, make sure MIDI output is enabled on it, insert a new MIDI track and set its input to Geist. You would then set its output to whatever drum synth you want to control with Geist (I presume this is why you are recording the MIDI).

I would have guessed it would have been due to the different default handling of "MIDI out enabled" between X1 and X3. X1 by default does not enable MIDI out, X3 enables MIDI out by default.

Thanks guys. It can be inserted as a simple instrument track, but in X1 the MIDI outs are not enabled by default and I got too complacent to read the insert dialogue box.
