Hi!
My PC restarted last night after a Windows Update (W7 - 64 bit) and now the WLC is missing.
Gone from my system.
The icons on my desktop and Start menu are the windows' icons you see for file-not-found.  I searched my machine with no luck.

I have projects using the Waves plugs and now I can't use them.
Waves has been suuuch a PITA to work with on my computer for some reason.  Their licensing software is finicky as all heck.

Once I had a project open using GTR or RenComp, closed and opened another project.  I got a "Licenses not found" popup that's too familiar now.
I restarted Sonar and it was fine.  But man I was kinda cheesed.

I have contacted Waves again regarding this issue.

Anyways, if anyone knows why this happened please let me know so I can make sure it doesn't happen again.
thanks!

Yup Waves licensing sucks. So I don't use 'em for that very reason. Sorry that's no help but it is true.

You can run the Waves installer again to bring it back. It installs just like checking or un-checking a plug-in during installation.

So, running the WOLI.exe again, is the same as if you're just adding a new plug-in to your collection. Then, you simply have to check the Waves Licenser (or similar check-box), when you're checking off all the plug-ins you want it to install. After that, simply run the Licenser from the desktop shortcut (or through the Start Menu), and log it back in.

NOTE: I recommend downloading the offline installer. It's 1Gbyte, but will quickly allow you to fix such issues fast!

I advise also, to get a very small USB stick to hold your licenses, so you can move them from machine to machine, like the old iLock method from before.

Personally, I think the latest Waves licensing method blows away the old iLok method. It really allows you to move licenses around far easier, and without the need to log into a 3rd-party license site. You can choose to store the licenses on your machine, or on a USB thumb-drive. If you lose them, they give you a "forgiveness" type feature where you can simply recover the licenses (twice per year?).

Best of luck!! Don't forget to ReScan your plug-ins in Sonar, if you use anything older than X3.

Yes I completely agree that WLC would be excellent if it wasn't causing me issues, and has caused issues since I initially installed.
Actually, the initial issue I had wasn't necessarily WLC, but where Waves stored the WaveShell 32/64-bit versions, causing Sonar to get confused.

Perhaps I'm spoiled by the likes of UAD and Slate, because their plugs install and simply work (although Slate crashes my sessions more than any other plugin).

I will download the offline installer and get that going.  I wasn't sure if I could simply try that instead of uninstall/re-install of everything (for the 3rd time since purchase during the huge sales).

A sincere thank you!

According to Waves, it's not the WaveShell that needs to be hidden, but the associated 32-bit Waves plug-ins (I could have gotten that backward, anyway...). Here's a procedure you can run through when updating the License Center (includes a blurb about that as well), and will hide your 32-bit plug-ins from Sonar.

Thank you, however that is not the issue here.  I had already fixed the 32-bit/64-bit issue that happens.

What happened to me was that the WLC was missing from my system.  Completely gone.
I had left my PC for a day and sometime during that day the file went missing.  I was using Waves in a session, closed up shop, came back two days later, and the WLC was gone.  The only thing that I KNOW happened was my PC restarted due to an Automatic Windows Update that happen late at night.

I tried my hand at troubleshooting so I could help Waves Support along with my issue.  I know how tough their job is at times so I did my best to make sure I covered as many bases as I could.

I checked my last virus scan history to see what was quarantined/removed.  Nothing.  I checked my windows update history, just updated security files.  I manually searched and looked for wlc, wlc.exe, etc.  Nothing.  Not even an icon.

So I took the advice two posts above and ran the installer and had to uninstall the plugs, then reinstall WLC and the plugs.

Things were working again.  Fingers crossed.  Waves makes me nervous.
