If I buy the Download Version of X3, do I need to have a previous installed version to update, or is it basically a fresh install?
I'm assuming the later as Sonar 8.5 is not Windows 8 compatible, so a Windows 8 laptop would need the whole thing.
Cheers

Every version of SONAR is a full install, so no you don't need previous versions. Actually, you can keep previous versions installed if you'd like and that way you can automatically migrate your settings to the new version, which will be installed in a separate folder of its own.

I have no idea if 8.5 will run on Windows 8, but it's not officially supported.

I do not believe X3 installation requires an earlier version to be present.  The upgrade licensing is a registration thing.

I believe it would not let you register X3 as an upgrade if you did not have the correct version registered with Cakewalk that matched your upgrade purchase.

Cheers Guys, I haven't upgraded for a while, well since moving to 8.5PE. From what I recall, I log in to Cakewalk and they know what versions you have. Actually something I've always liked is that the site not stores the serial numbers for previous versions, but the authorisation numbers. Something I've found quite tidy accessible, helpful S**ts hiotb the fan and you have to reconfigure.

I've emigrated to Vietnam, and importing my old laptop is going to be a killer with duty, even getting the last 8.5discs sent over will burn the pocket, so figure time to use the money it would cost ton invest, and download rather than a physical copy. Sorry Scott, even your old Sonar User guide will have to remain in storage.

That's okay. The old guide won't work for the new version anyway. A new SONAR X3 Power! book is in the works.

He will still have to install SONAR X3 from our store in order to download SONAR X3d so no harm in getting a head start.

I'm going to ask a returning r=friend to bring my mic, headphone and soundcard. These are small, but with the laptop as well and what ever he has, it may draw the attention from customs increasing the chance of him getting taxed on the way back in. A few small items, which you can't really get here. You can't even get an SM58 here, even when they sell other shure stuff.

There are plenty of laptops though, though I'm surprised how many of them are linux as default, restricting the option to Sony mainly it seems, I'm still checking on things, so will install Sonar after the next x3d is out, but thanks for the tip off.
