Hi all
Been off the Cakewalk grid for a really long time, but am now getting back to composing and recording.
 
Equipment:
X2 Producer, MOTU Ultralite Mk3 on a Win7 machine.
 
Problem:
I sequenced a drum track and decided to lay down a rough guitar track. The issue is that they two tracks are not in sync, which I'm not sure is due to some latency issue or some other weird clock setting I've missed in the setup. I've gone through the (less than helpful) MOTU manual several times, and have been at a loss to figure out where the issue lies. Have also played with various input monitoring permutations, but to no avail.
 
If anyone using this combo (or a similar interface) can assist, I'd be forever grateful!

Did you use an external midi device to do the drum track? If so, try turning on Transmit MIDI clock.
Cakewalk should deal with any audio interface latency, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

No. The sequenced drum track was done in Sonar itself. No external MIDI.

What synth is it driving?. If you happened to point it to your onboard GM wavetable synth, the drums will have a lot of latency. You should be using a soft synth like SONAR's Session Drummer playing back through the MOTU along with your Guitar track.
 
If that's not the problem, does SONAR's audio metronome sync with the guitar track or the drum track on playback?

I should have been more specific with my original post (sorry). Yes, the drum tracks are using SD3.
The guitar, when recorded with the metronome, plays back just slightly after the metronome. So that tells me it's not related to SD3.
 
I'm recording with the THRU option off, and have tried this with PDC on and off, and it did not make a difference.
 
That being said, i "think" I may have found the problem. Will do more testing and let y'all know.

Well...
I think I fixed it.
Sonar's wave profiler was initially based on some weird default settings in the MOTU. (I'd updated the MOTU driver and software since the last recording). Once I changed those settings, I re-ran wave profiler and was able to reduce the latency substantially from 29. Only did one quick test, but it seems to be back to what I'd originally had set up. Won't be able to do extensive testing until later next week.

Wave Profiler means you're using WDM driver mode. I think MOTU generally recommends ASIO, and I prefer it for various reasons. You might want to try switching it and seeing how it works. Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording > Driver Mode.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to those who have offered their help.
Good news is that it's fixed. Seems to have been an erroneous setting in X2 regarding the WDM drivers (I don't have an option for ASIO for some reason). Once i changed that, all is good.
 
So we can mark this one RESOLVED.
