Only a few weeks ago I heard Francis Rossi talking about the new acoustic Quo album. He was saying that Rick wouldn't be a part of any live shows because he wasn't into the project, aside from his recent heart attack.

I was there at Wolverhampton Civic Hall with my lad and Sid Strummer when this footage was shot:
 

 
I know the ol' Quo always got a bad press as "three chord wonders", but watching the original 'Frantic Four' (plus Bob Young on harmonica) live was a lesson in how tight a good band could be on stage.
 
Alongside the likes of Malcolm Young, Rick should be rightfully appreciated as an incredible (if under-sung) rhythm guitarist. He filled out the classic Quo sound with (quite literally) rock solid accompaniment to his own and Rossi's vocals, often using unorthodox open tunings to get the tone just right.
 
RIP Rick, and thank you for the music.
