  • Help me Please! Did someone sell me a wah wah pedal with my X3 Studio upgrade?!

In the course of two days I upgraded from MC6T to Sonar X3 Studio in steps. After the install of Sonar X3 Studio, the final step in my road to glory, there seemed to be some bizarre behaviors. I thought it wise to uninstall it and do a reinstall. Before I reinstalled, however, I uninstalled the original X3; I understand the updates are full programs, just price adjusted.

I just launched X3 Studio in the last hour, and for no reason suddenly every single project I begin as new causes all audio to go in and out, but not like an audio problem. It is more like someone is running an oscillator under everything I put in.

On the other hand, if I load and play audio tracks in a demo or something, everything plays just fine, and softsynths work just fine. It is only when I insert an instrument into a "new" project. Note that the only other thing I can think of is that I installed the X3b and X3c updates after the initial X3 Studio installation; this particular problem was not occurring before the uninstall/reinstall, and that's the only thing I did differently.

Please help?

Please could you disable 64 bit precision engine in preferences and update your footer so we can see your specs (see my footer). Thank you.

I don't have it enabled.

Does this happen if you start a project from X3's Normal template? It could be you have something in a custom project template from an earlier version that's causing trouble.

When you uninstalled X3, did you also delete the registry keys and the hidden folder data?

Also, have you checked your driver mode and sample rate settings in Sonar, to make sure they are correct?

Did you do both the downloads and installs of the maintenance with any and all antivirus software suspended?

Lastly, did you do the install and maintenance updates with Run As Administrator?

I don't think it has to do with the 64bit engine being enabled.

Make sure you have your bit rate and sample rate set correctly for your old projects and for your sound card/audio interface. Make sure you are using ASIO or WDM drivers.

Let's see...

I've never had to set my bit rate for prior projects or other people's projects brought to me before. I use an import setting of original, so that should do the trick I would think? Also, this problem is occurring with some of the audio stuff that came with the program. My setting should have no impact, for the same reason as other stuff I mix that might not have been recorded with me.

I use ASIO drivers. Also, keep in mind, this is only happening, as far as I can tell, when I load up a new project and attempt to add a softsynth. Once that happens, that project seems to forever behave in this manner. But if load up some audio files or an audio project that isn't started by me, I have no problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the response Bob!

I did not delete the registry keys. I wouldn't think it would matter though, as I could technically have kept X3 and MC6T on my system and just added X3 Studio. The "updates" are full programs. I'm not much of a registry buff, so if I was to do that, I'd need some specific instructions (I know how to get there, and all that simple jazz, but no idea what to look for).

I did disable my antivirus stuff.

I did NOT install the updates as Administrator? Could that be the problem? If so, can the updates be removed and reinstalled painlessly?

Are you creating these new projects from an existing template or by using Ctrl+N?

I've tried it with two templates: Normal and 16 track audio.
