I have Melodyne Essential installed and have a couple questions:  The first question I have is why can't I save the edits I make while in the editor?  I go into the editor, make a couple changes, save my project, close down and when I re-open the project none of my edits have been saved.
The second question is why do I keep getting a Melodyne Licenser screen every time I try to "Open Editor"?  After I close a project and then try to go back in and re-make my edits (i.e. Open Editor) the Melodyne Licenser screen opens and all of the little blobs are greyed out and uneditable.  The licenser says that I have a license and that it is activated but it also has four options on the screen.  I assume that my license is good and dont want to do anything with the four options so I close the licenser.  Then I try to go to the editor and do some changes but everything is greyed out and uneditable.

Ok, I have question two figured out.  Basically I had to re-enter my license key and re-register and now I can edit again.  The bigger question now is why cant I save my edits when I save the project that I am working on.  All my edits are just gone after I save and close my project ( and here I thought save was going to be simple).  Perhaps all edits must be bounced to a clip inorder to capture the change between sessions??

I had the same problem and it was discussed in a forum thread last week or so. It was caused by the "upgrade offer" from the third party vendor, tied into a licensing key check. It took a couple hours out of my life, trying to read the documentation and watch training videos to see what was wrong. If this happens to you, you need to find the extra window that is open and re-register the software.

Cakewalk seems to be "licensing" more and more, for instance Melodyne and Addictive. This is just fine, except the other vendors have all kinds of paranoia about security that turns into annoying problems for us Sonar users. Not to mention the very annoying upgrade "offers" Celemony keeps popping into my life.

I frankly do not like Melodyne, its just too complicated. I suppose that the nature of what it does is complicated, and that is the reason for it's lack of approachability. But the fact is that for me it is going on the back burner because I don't feel like watching the training videos over and over just to do what I have been doing in V-Vocal and Autotune for the last 10 years.

Plus the tone of the Celemony training videos is so condescending that I really loose my enthusiasm.

pharoh,

Thanks for the reply.  That explains the registration weirdness.  Have you or anyone else experience the inability to save edits when you save the project.  The only way I can make my edits stick is to bounce to clip.  Any thoughts on that part of this program?

Can someone please try this for me?  Go to the link below and find the tip on "Make your vocals thicker" and do the tutorial, then save your project and close Sonar X3.  Final step re-open Sonar and the project you just closed.  Now see if the edits that you made with Sonar had been saved.  For the life of me I am unable to figure out why the edits will not save on my machine and I have to believe that it is something that I am doing wrong.  The URL is:

http://blog.cakewalk.com/...y/products/sonar/tips/

and the tip is:

Make your vocals thicker

Thanks,

It's not your fault. I also found cloning of a melodyne region does not save the clone's edits. Whoever made up the tip neither tested the save and reopen, nor read the trouble report I sent in.

Thanks bvideo!!!

Ok, thats good in a bad way.  Now I am wondering if this issue is still a problem with the Melodyne Editor version of the product.  Can anyone verify this same set of steps or something similar within the Editor version.  That would be the clencher as to if I upgrade or not.

Thanks,

Well I just ran the Melodyne Editor version test and this is also a defect in that version.  I would suggest holding off on the upgrade to anyone that is experiencing save issues within SONAR X3b.  Definitely not a fun experience chasing down this defect.  Lost about an hours worth of edits.  The only work around I can think of is to bounce to clip when you are done with your edits.

If its not saving your edits after simply saving and reloading the project, this is most likely not a SONAR problem but a Melodyne registration issue.
This behavior is similar to what happens when Melodyne is running in demo mode. I suggest contacting Celemony tech support and they can walk you through resolving it. You could also try uninstalling Melodyne and reinstalling making sure that you are installing the VST3 version or doing a repair install with the Melodyne installer.

The issue is not simply saving the edits of a simple application of Melodyne. The settings of the cloned RFX are lost. For me, this happened with the registered Melodyne essential. See the scenario of CWBRN-20020 (Submitted to Development). Cloning is part of the Vocal Thickening Tip.

By the way, a perfectly fine workaround is just not clone a track with Melodyne. Or delete it from the clone and reapply it. Especially if your aim is to change the editing anyway.

Edit: WOW --- here on a Saturday night! Thanks, Noel!
