Preferences -> VST Settings. We are able to add DX plugins in folders such as: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi

This is fine, but this section is called "VST Settings" which implies VST only. Please be more clear, I suggest renaming the section "Plugins" and be clear as to what type of plugins this section detects.

What have I missed? My perspective is this that this is mislabelled (causing newbie confusion, or maybe I'm confused).

dx/dxi are registered in windows not the host

Yup direct X is windows (windows registry), but please see my example. The plugins are included in the Daw when that file path is included (Or not included when there is no file path). There is a behaviour...
