• SONAR
  • Audio engine constantly stopping

I'm still on Sonar 7 Producer. I know it's an old version, but until yesterday it was working perfectly well.

It had been a few months since I last had Sonar open--I've been busy with other things. So yesterday I got myself Alchemy as a Christmas present. It seems to have installed properly, but when I tried to use it in Sonar, the audio engine would only run a few seconds before stopping. I would start it again, but it would just stop. I thought Alchemy might have been causing problems, but I've tried it with other VSTs, same result. I've tried different settings in the ASIO panel, no effect. So I'm stumped. What else can I try?

The computer is a Sweetwater Creation Station, model CS400, a bit less than 18 months old. Windows 7, all updates. Intel core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4 Ghz, 8 gigs RAM. Lexicon Lambda interface.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

The first place I would start is to reinstall the patches/hot fixes for SONAR 7 (http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/product.aspx/SONAR-7)

First check and see where your version stands (in SONAR... Help->About SONAR). You may simply be missing some of those patches as well... Start by re-installing the patch where your version is now, and anything newer from there.

Alchemy can be a serious CPU-muncher, especially with layered patches. Excessive dropouts will cause the audio engine to stop. Try increasing your buffers and see if that solves the problem.
