i'm trying to decide whether to get Adobe Premier or Sony Vegas. Any suggestions? I was also looking at Avid, but it won't run on Vista.

Thank you

I like Vegas better then Premiere. Vegas also supports the Mackie Control.

Thanks John, I installed both demos and by looks Premier seems more powerful, but Vegas more intuitive. I have not spent much time with either yet. Are they fairly equivalent as far as features?

Vegas is actually the more powerful of the two. It has most of its stuff hidden in how it works with multi tracks and FX. It can do a lot with color for example in ways Premier can't. You will need to work with them both to see how they stack up.

I use Premiere at my house because my cousin works at Adobe and I'm allowed an official family discount.

Premiere is almost a real video editing program... and additionally Encore seems to be the only current consumer/small business priced app capable of authoring a feature rich Blu-Ray disk. I do really like how the Adobe suite is sorta integrated... it's easy to drag a layered .psd into Premiere and After Effects etc.

If I was buying a new video editing system at retail... Final Cut Pro.

It's a no brainer... I work with people who own Avid, Discreet, and old Media 100 video systems (yes they are still making money on Media 100) and everyone has a Final Cut system as well.

Final Cut isn't panacea but I do think it's a no brainer.

best regards,
mike

But Final cut will only work on a Mac right?

If you have the money and want just about every feature you could ever need, get...

* Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection
http://www.garrigus.com/c...%20Master%20Collection

OR if you just need video and audio for DVD and Blu-ray (and online video), get...

* Sony Vegas Pro Video Editing and DVD Architect Software
http://www.garrigus.com/c...ex.asp?ID=Sony%20Vegas

Both products are excellent.

Best,
Scott

Sony Vegas... no contest. Looks and works just like Sonar for the most part even some of the quick keys are the same. You''ll love it. Adobe products are mostly hype.. even the business stuff.

Is Vegas prosumer or capable of professional editing (if that makes any sense)?
