  • Ocean Way Drums Multichannel in Kontakt 5...no sound... [SOLVED...by workaround]

Has anyone used an Ocean Way Drums multichannel kit in Sonar X(x)? I was able to neatly assign each piece of the kit to its own pair of stereo outputs in Kontakt 5 (1/2 up thru 19/20), but I'm having trouble getting Sonar to produce any sound that way. The MIDI track assigned to Kontakt shows a signal, and the individual tracks in Kontakt show signals properly when I play the MIDI track, but no sound is heard, and none of the individual kit piece tracks in Sonar show any signal...only the MIDI track does. If I change the output assignments in each Sonar track to the default Kontakt outputs, I then do get sound, but only on MOST of the kit pieces...one of the toms, the ride, and the crash cymbal either don't sound at all, or the sound comes through the wrong channel...so those default Kontakt output channels in Sonar appear to be all screwed up. The new outputs I set up in Kontakt that are all perfectly organized (in Kontakt) show up in the Sonar output channel list for each track, but they all say "unassigned". So if I select those "unassigned" outputs, that's when I get no sound. I know this sounds like a big, long mess, but I thought I'd throw this up here in case anyone immediately recognized this situation as something they've also experienced and was able to resolve...I searched the forums already, but no dice...thanks for any help...

Never mind...I tried the same setup in Reaper as described in my above post, and it worked just fine...so I'll just use Reaper for this project.

As they say, a bad workman always blames his tools. I have no issue at all with Kontakt drums and Sonar. If Reaper is more suitable for your workflow good for you but it's your butt that's the issue not Sonar or Kontakt's ;)

Hey, thanks for the help, there, Alex! I myself will not lower myself to your level of personal insults.

Nothing personal... fact is you couldn't get Sonar configured. Next time just say that rather than It's too bad that Sonar just got its butt kicked by a $70.00 program...

Apols for just telling it how it is, please don't try to ruin an apps reputation just because you don't know how to use it or you have a config issue with a third party program. Good luck with Reaper, I've never used it but I am told it is a great app.

You get a lot of that on this forum.

Right...I couldn't get Sonar configured. I could in Reaper, and it was simple. I admit it...I don't know how to use Sonar to accomplish such a simple task. If you jump down everybody's throat that submits a post on this forum that mentions something derogatory against Sonar, you must be a busy guy.

Sorry but for me it's the equivalent of getting into a car, crashing it into a lamppost, and then blaming the car. I have no issues with people having issues, I do have issues with people blaming the car especially when the people who actually develop the software read these forums. Thankyou for clarification.

I see your point, and I didn't know you actually worked for Cake (even though I see "Cake" is part of your username, I mistakenly assumed "Moderator" would appear in your avatar if that were the case). So no hard feelings, it's just that I have spent HOURS of internet research and trial and error trying to figure this out in Sonar, so hopefully you understand my frustration that I got it going within 20 minutes in Reaper. Obviously Sonar is a more powerful program than Reaper and I prefer to use it at all times, but I don't understand why some accomplishing some seemingly simple tasks have to be so complicated, at least without knowing the required "strategic moves" in Sonar...lol.

Yes and to be honest I should have PM'd you. I am never the diplomat, apologies. Nothing ever is meant to be personal, I just can't help myself.
BTW no I don't work for Cake, but I know what it is like to be a developer (defenceless).
