Blimey...

I never thought I'd be doing this, and I had even bought Reaktor 6 last month, just to "dabble" with modular synthesis.

Then, for reasons I cannot clearly remember, my eldest son planted the modular hardware seed, and it took.

We went "halvers" on a Doepfer "basic system" and it arrived yesterday.

Just to see if it worked okay, I quickly knocked up a patch, just to get some noise out of it:-

Lots to do now... And if I thought GAS was a problem before..............

Mmmm... Not had Becan for a while... My better half went off it for some totally unexplained and utterly strange reason...

This modular thing is a slippery slope which will aggravate your GAS Andy.  You will find yourself thinking now if I just add that module what will I be able to do?

Enjoy and remember take notes and close up pictures of your patches and module settings it is the only way.

Indeed!

Kinda weird... You get so used to saving presets on our hardware and software synths... Takes me back to the times when I have a Juno, Multimoog and SH-101 and having to make notes of fave sound setups. Mind you, at least the options where not as great with hard wired synth and after a while I didn't bother any more as I instinctively knew how to create the sound I wanted.

cheers

Your other half?  Is that your HH or your HW?

Interestingly, there's a school of thought that I adhere to that anything achieved is ephemeral and to just embrace that.

And always remember the first question of modular: "What happens if I modulate that at audio rate?"

I should also post this in case you aren't already familiar:

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/modules/browser?SearchName=&SearchVendor=&SearchFunction=&SearchSecondaryfunction=&SearchTe=&SearchTemethod=max&SearchBuildtype=b&SearchLifecycle=&SearchSet=&SearchMarketplace=&SearchIsmodeled=0&SearchShowothers=1&SearchShow1u=0&order=newest

Aids in your GAS by enabling you to not only search for things across the extraordinary number of modules available, but also create virtual racks of modules to plan, wish for, and move stuff around to visualize different layouts.
