Enjoy and remember take notes and close up pictures of your patches and module settings it is the only way.

Interestingly, there's a school of thought that I adhere to that anything achieved is ephemeral and to just embrace that.

True in some cases.

That's quite a long "link" you have there Drew.

Perhaps.

But it's not the length of the link, it's that it points to just the right place that counts.

Your other half?

I'm a bloke and my "other half" is my good lady, so to speak

Of some thirty odd years, which is quite amazing considering what an a-hole I am sometimes...

Let me know if you have any euro-related questions. And if you aren't already aware, MW has the gold forum for this kind of thing

Thanks, yeah, I've signed up at the MW forum

I think I can relate to that

That's quite a capable system already.

And I always had my eye on that Xpander filter but ended up going in a different direction.

Yeah, probably too capable and against popular opinion over at MW, which I can understand, but I just got fed up of looking at all those lovely Mutable Instrument, Intellijel and what ever else stuff and talked my lad into getting this so called "basic" system on the grounds that the Doepfer stuff always gets a good word on the various vids that we have watched and that the other stuff can be quite a bit more expensive. Admittedly, they do more, but can also be harder to get to grips with.

James insisted on the Metropolis sequencer, and I wanted something like that anyway, so that it the single most expensive item in the rack.

I added the Wasp filter because I used to have one of those little plastic things when they first came out. So for the sake of a bit of nostalgia

Still early days and there are some modules that I haven't even tried yet...

While admitting that I have become a huge Mutable fan, the anti-Doepfer vibe some seem to have isn't justified, IMO. The only reason I don't have more Doepfer stuff is it usually takes more space than I'd like and there's also just so much to choose from that it's almost impossible not to mix and match. But the Doepfer stuff I do have is just great and I like to use the phrase "deceptively clever" to describe many of Dieter's designs in that sometimes there's some little addition that might not seem sexy but ends up being really useful.

The only thing that might be behind the perception is some of his filter "clones" might not be as accurate as some would like, even if they still sound great. The Xpander is probably accurate though, as I'm pretty sure it uses the same chip as the Oberheims from 30 years ago. Other than that, I suppose Doepfer just isn't "elitist" enough for some.

I keep thinking I ended up adding too much stuff too quickly as I have a backlog of about 8000 patching ideas I keep meaning to try, but once you sit down...

LOL! Yeah... I know what you mean

I must admit that I am not too bothered about the clones being that accurate. I'm pretty certain that even the modern day Moog synths are not exactly the same as they used to be.

As long as there is at least some perceptible difference between the different filters, which is why I went for the Wasp, for instance. I was watching a mylarmelodies video last week where he looked at half a dozen different filters, each claiming to be a clone of something or other. That was interesting
