Try Concrete Limiter on drums when you want a bigger, more "rock" sound. It brings up the room ambience if you hit it hard enough. I also use Concrete Limiter on vocals, but not on program material. For that the LP-64 compressor works very well but I also use the PC4K. It's a little temperamental but when you dial in the right setting, it can really rock.

But I almost always touch acoustic stuff w/ compression coming in to firm it up more than shaving overs, so your use may differ.

You record with a software compressor? I was under the impression that cant' be done... or do you mean hardware compression before you hit Sonar?

Gavin

I use analog hardware compressors before hitting the interface.  That is what I'm talking about.  If you add digital compression etc. during recording it is no different than adding during mixing.  The compression is still working on the digital copy.   So, you heard right.  sorry for the confusion.
