Like most here are recommending, try everything fixing your box or get a new one.
But if you really get a mac, which makes no sense imo,
go for apple software (sorry cakewalk !).............
Don´t want to mention a business competition on the cakewalk forum.

Actually, Sonar runs very well on Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp. If you use a windows keyboard attached to it it won't feel too weird either. I have a custom buildt DAW for Sonar that is rock solid, but recently got a Macbook Pro for my portable needs. Sonar seems very stable on the Windows Partition of that.

Mac usually uses decent hardware. That said, if you're not going to use OSX, you could get the same hardware for less money. Running Windows on it destroys the point, to me. My previous Windows PC ran OSX from a separate drive. Both were equally stable. It really boils down to either hardware failure/incompatibility or improper maintenance. Or Vista :p

That's a good point Sanderxpander! I bought a Mac because I wanted the OSX Environment. I agree that buying a Mac to run windows would be a waste of money.

Which was my point as well....

If you are running Windows on an Apple Mac expect all the issues you would normally have with Windows, no different than if I was to run OSX on my PC.

So we all agree, buy a Mac if you want a Mac, not because you think it's Disneyland for PC's. Enjoy the learning curve.

+1 on the MacBook! I needed a laptop for writing film cues in other studios, and it was a toss up between an HP Zbook or a Mac. I bought a loaded 15" MacBook Pro Retina (16GB Ram, 512GB flash drive), knowing I could return it within 14 days if I hated it. Not a fan of running Windows on Mac, but I can tell you this is a killer machine. I have been a PC guy forever, and had an older Mac for using Logic from time to time. I switched to Cubase 7 in the summer so I could get into more serious film scoring work....apprently X3d will have improvements (???). Seriously though, I may never go back to Sonar despite using it for 20 years. OS Mavericks is awesome, and everything on the Mac "just works"...right out of the box. No fartin' around with Windows settings, etc, you can just focus on your music with no worries; knowing that all of your computer components are 100% compatible. My PC is now a slave to host all of my VI's using VEPro 5. IMHO, Mac is is way to go if you are a serious composer, especially for film work and heavy MIDI editing.

I'll still use Sonar for some recording wok on the PC, but the Mac has changed my whole perception on "Mac World". Believe me, I was a naysayer for years!

I've sometimes wondered why some Windows users (like myself) have had the same results, while others just never do...   Maybe I've just been lucky, because for me Windows has always "just worked" too.

Now please excuse me while I gently tap on some nearby wooden object...

Actually, I'm one of those guys as well......Sonar has always worked great, never experienced all of the infamous bugs and crashing issues mentioned on this forum over the years. I suspect it has something to do with compatibilty and quality of the PC components, loaded programs, etc. My PC never touches the internet (except for required updates, etc), is custom built with high end parts, and only has the DAW's and VI's loaded....no additional programs.

Or buy a Dell desktop with a long warranty ;)

I have had three dells and they have been nothing but trouble for me. About 3 years is all I got out of two lap tops I bought. I purchased a desktop and in the course of a little over 2 years the graphics card went out and I had ram issues. This happened right after the warranty expired.

I have had Toshiba computers that worked great with no issues. I had a few computers Using ASUS mother boards and they worked really well.

I would say +1 for contacting Jim Rosenberry and have him build one for you. Next time I am ready to upgrade I am gonna give him a call.
