I was thinking above the sends, as it would reflect a more natural signal routing but I guess that would then push the sends down further depending on how many fx were on a track.

What you've suggested makes sense too.

UnderTow, the latest mock ups are just brilliant! The readability, is spot on! It just takes a microsecond glance to know what's what, unlike with the original X1 design.

Looking forward to seeing this version, my preference is for green gain, orange pan and blue volume but as long as they are all different it doesn't actually matter too much as it's re-learnable

Nice. Very nice. I want that. Especially with the vol coloured orange and the trim/gain green. And I would be able to read the input/output text labels. I so want this.
Thanks. Yes, different colours could make things even more obvious. I'll experiment a bit.

I am relatively indifferent about whether they have text or an icon, but it should be one or the other (rather than both).

A couple of new versions. One that uses that extra space in the Input Section. (When clicking on it the text changes to On (In Green) or Off (In Grey)).

And one version which shows what could possibly happen when the track header is too narrow. The widgets don't just collapse, they change (and the Input Echo Button comes back).

Btw, the forum resizes every single image even when it would fit on the screen. (Grrr this forum software is crap!) This makes the images fuzzy.
If you right click on an image and choose View, you will see it at it's real size and it will be sharp.

Just an example to show how things could move to the left to save space if no Track Icons are enabled:

And another little improvement I think: By putting certain buttons closer together it makes it clearer what belongs to what and thus what each button does. I moved the Automation Read and Write buttons closer. Also the Freeze and Archive buttons. And the MSR buttons.

Here ya go:

This is looking great. Have we enough room to return phase and interleave to the fray?

Shame Brandon's vanished again, but I understand that, if he were to acknowledge how good this is, it would perhaps build an expectation that we may see some of these changes.
