  • Forum for Sonar X series, but more threads for other things (p.2)

I agree in theory but unfortunately the other forums don't get as many eyes on them and the regulars in those forums many times aren't on the current version of Sonar. Up here everyone is, for the most part, using the X series so hardware or other questions that may not be directly related to the software may have solutions WITHIN the software.

Now if someone were simply asking "what headphones should I buy" or "what mic is best for recording such and such" then for sure... this is the wrong place but I rarely see those types of posts. Even when they do show up the answers are generally pretty good and sometimes there are solutions within Sonar Xwhatever that can help OP out.

I... well I kind of skirt some of the rules myself sometimes like with my remix post the other day or pontifications on what effects should go on what BUT most of the regulars know that pretty much everything I own in the software realm is from the X series or being used in the X series. I could oftentimes toss some of these questions into the techniques or other forums but because I really don't  own anything else (that I currently use) then I find I get more useful, relevant to MY situation and frankly faster responses up here.

I know it's perhaps frowned upon by some but when I ask something here I'm usually just trying to get a reasonably quick response because I'm actually in the middle of whatever I am trying to do. If I posted it elsewhere I could very easily be waiting a very long time or not get a response at all. I also don't check the other forums as religiously as this one. Actually I never really stray from this forum and much less frequently than I should the Techniques (to get my brain twisted by people far smarter than I am) and Songs  forums (to check out who's up to what and try to get my ears around what others are doing with the software).

And occasionally I'll look at the CH to bask in the wackiness.

Just my thoughts on the matter... as I try to get my nerves calmed after some kind of all day battle royale going on next door. Ugh... I thought this was a nice building. :-/

I think the OP has a point but, like so many things, I don't think it is a binary choice. If my soundcard is giving me issues and I use Xx do I have to point to Hardware? If I can't get my head wrapped around Melodyne do I have to post to Software?

I'm comfortable the way it is, warts and all.

I'd rather the forum had improved ways of tagging threads, filtering views etc.

You probably live next to someone practicing their River Dance moves, or someone trying to install X3 on XP.

lol... It's funny you say that, Bob because every so often I hear someone booting up into XP.

Didn't they hire Brian Eno for that?

I think that as long as the poster prefaces said threads with the term O.T. then anyone seeing it can immediately move on. If it bugs you, don't read it...same as T.V. just change channels

I don't think that Cakewalk staff are motivated to change this.  They sometimes even post general stuff here themselves.

Hello all,

I thought this forum was for Sonar X_ software, but I see more posts related to hardware creeping on here.
Cakewalk have been forward-thinking and have provided forums for hardware and systems, which are just as alive and kicking as this one dedicated to Sonar.

While the discussions may be compelling, there may be more targeted responses when posted in the correct forum. People that are more interested in hardware are probably going to scan the hardware forum more than this one, which may give you more responses to your hardware related questions and discussions.

Just saying, that's all.

No doubt a targeted forum makes for much cleaner information retrieval. But before you can get a response, you have to get a reading, and as someone who regularly reads and contributes to the "gear" forum I can tell you that it is read by a small fraction of the people who post here. The fact is that many people who post here can not always distinguish between a hardware and a software problem or question. Sometimes I can't either. Is a question like "Will a framus work with Sonar X3c, and if so why won't my framus?" are legitimate crossovers. Users of both a framus and Sonar are orders of magnitude more likely to respond to that question if posted here. There is no reason for them to be focusing on gear if theirs is working.

It is usually easy enough to sort out which postings have nothing to interest me or to which I have nothing to contribute and just move on.
