  • MIDI Draw: I forget... is there a way to drag draw notes so insert say every second beat?

My memory is foggy on this. What I'd like to do is let's say I want to draw in a hi hat hit every second beat. I'm visualizing setting the Draw Tool to insert a not every second beat but leaving the notes in between blank and perhaps constraining it to the hi hat line with shift.

Am I dreaming or does this actually exist? The old chicken peck then ctrl drag is kind of boring/annoying/time consuming.

Cheers.

Could use the step sequence or create a track or lane that only contains the hi hat sequence converted to a groove clip and drag the clip to repeat as much as you want.

The quickest way would probably be to create a step sequencer pattern and use the autofill feature.  You can then convert to piano roll if that is your preferred editing method.

That's cool guys. I know about the various ways to program/drag things out/etc and my workflow is pretty tight in this regards. I was just thinking when I'm actually creating the initial sequences it would save some time to be able to draw things in this way. More fun too IMO. Not quite sure why my mind went there because Sonar is the only host I've ever done MIDI in. Must have been another one of my DAWdreams. ;-p

Perhaps it's feature request time.

Definitely more of a step sequencer feature, I think.  Then, as noted above, create it as a groove clip and drag copy it out.  After you create one perfect measure of hi=hats (with the right dynamics and such), it's really easy to fill the whole track with it using the groove clips.
