So, I've been looking into the X3 upgrade (from my current X1-C_Studio) and noticed that Win7 or 8 seems to be needed. Do I really need to upgrade my hardware/OS again to stay current? I already have a laptop running W8, but don't have it hooked up to the midi and audio gear as the processor is low-powered. I'm still using the yearly updated desktop PC (power supply, video, monitors, etc) which is running pretty stable for quite awhile. I realize I will need to replace the Vista PC eventually (Q6600) but dread the transition to transfer all the licences and stuff to a new system and not just from CWalk. (I've got like 200GB of Steam and about 500GB of other stuff including an Office-2007 installation that isn't about to be updated.) And there isn't an easy transition path from Vista to W8 in terms of just trying to update the OS. Oh, and my 'broadband' connection runs about 1.2Mb/s (about 1 CD~600MB/hour - thanks CenturyLink!!), so I'm not even considering re-downloading stuff.
Any suggestions?
I'm thinking I'll need to wait another year or so to replace the hardware/OS and go with another desk for another desktop (and stereo. midi kb, audio interface, etc) and just get X4 or more likely X5. Maybe I'll just spend more time with FLS.
