I have a MOTO 896 and a Line 6 POD HD Pro X both connected to the PC with USB. I have installed the drivers for both. When I start Sonar X3 with both devices powered on Sonar selects the POD HD as the ASIO device. Is there any option that can be set so that the MOTU is the default ASIO driver? If the POD HD is powered off when I start Sonar then the MOTU is used by Sonar and then I can power on the POD HD. Everything works ok that way but its a bit annoying.

Windows will identify attached devices according to where they're connected . the way you're doing it is the only way. Only one ASIO driver can be used at any one time.

Thanks for the reply. I know that only one ASIO driver can be used at a time but I was hoping that there was a way to control which one was selected. It seems that Sonar/Windows will choose the first active one. The install order was MOTO and then Line 6 so it would seem that Windows picks the last installed as the default if available.

It is dependent on how the various buses are scanned. Seeing as they're both connected via USB try changing the ports around. Perhaps there's a way to change the order that way, the same as when we used to swap devices to different PCI slots to change the detection order.

I do not have multiple devices so I cannot test this but what if you edit the AUD.ini and reorder the interfaces there. The AUD.ini is a text file in "c:\Your User directory\appData\roaming\Cakewalk\Your Version of SONAR". Can't hurt anything because you can always delete the file and it will be rebuilt on the fly (or work on a copy of the file).

That's what I was afraid of ... that it's a hardware sequence with no available parameters. Sonar is just using the first in line. My connections are all USB so it would seem that the same rules apply to USB as they do for PCI.

I edited the AUD.ini file and completely removed all references to the Line 6 POD. What a surprise that all entries came back the next time I started Sonar with the device powered on. I suppose this could be considered normal behavior since the device also comes and goes from Windows Control Panel and Device Manager depending on the current state of the device. It's a USB device so it just gets recognized again when it's powered back on.
 
Although not what I want I can see this behavior being beneficial to others since it might otherwise be difficult to get a missing device to re-appear. Still, there should be a way in Sonar to choose the defaults.

Yes, it will put it back. I just did not know what would happen if you reordered the entries in the file rather than delete them.

Yeah - you could try the reorder thing.
 
I used to have ASIO4ALL on a laptop, to allow ASIO driver mode while doing edits on the road, and I deleted it because Sonar kept choosing that one by default when it would start, even with my dedicated audio interface connected.
 
So, perhaps reordering will work.  I now have only one ASIO driver, and that is for my single audio interface.

I tried reordering them and that didn't help. It was already listed last to start with so I put it first, then last again, rebooted and everything in between.
 
I will have to try digging into Windows Control Panel to see if anything in there might affect it.
