How do you play a sample in Dim Pro?  I can load a wav or rex sample file, but have no idea how to play it...sad but true.  In Cyclone and RXP Rex there is a Play button....

Btw, the help file does not load for me with the F1 key, so I downloaded the help file today from Cakewalk, but it is empty, just the interface and no text....

p.s. For separate thread, some sample playback synths are crashing X3, getting Teleport Server messages, garbled playback audio or no playback audio at all.

Click on the sample name area just below the element buttons to load a file into DimPro

Try clicking the "DIMENSIONPRO" in the upper right-hand part of the DimPro UI then hit F1.

BitBridge crashes with Teleport errors when a 32bit plug-in fails. Either find a 64bit bit replacement, try jBridge or use 32bit SONAR. Some 32bit plug-ins do not work well in 64bit hosts.

I can load a sample, just can't play it, unless the 'drag and drop notes' on the right side of the sample area are highlighted after a sample loads, in which case I can then drag the sample to the Dim Pro midi track.  But, that only works for some wav files, not all, and not for other file types like sfz.

F1 for Help just doesn't work at all.  From within Sonar, the mouse pointer changes for a few seconds as if it's executing the task, then changes back to the pointer and that's it.  Launching Dim Pro in standalone mode as administrator, F1 for Help does nothing.

Do you have to attach a midi keyboard to audition Dim Pro samples?

(I reinstalled Dim Pro before original post.)

(Regarding the 32bit plugins, the only plugins I'm using came with Sonar, but I did read about legacy synths being problematic.)

You have to give DimPro midi note info for it to play. Use the step sequencer located on the title bar to the right. That will open the SS for you to enter midi notes for DimPro to play.

Or use a midi keyboard as a controller to play the notes you want in dimpro

Or use your mouse and the PRV keyboard. I find it easier to preview audio files in the browser rather than dragging them into a synth.

The help file (64bit DimPro) should be located in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Documentation" and the file name should be Dimension_Pro.chm I believe I had to rename the file.

Okay, thanks Grem, scook, I'm running off-track I guess.

I'm trying to use loops to craft songs.  Dim Pro seems to be the sample player of choice.  I read in X1/X2 Power books that Dim Pro was a sample playback synth, similar to Cyclone and RXP Rex player, so I was expecting it to work like that or like the SI's do or like AD does.  Load a sample (loop), audition, apply fx, drag and drop onto the track.  I'll connect a keyboard and experiment.

btw:  Found another copy of the Help file from the X2 or X3 install and that one is in tact.  F1 doesn't open it, but I can double click the file....
