It's a new world. The other night I was talking with a young guy that does technical stuff in TV and movies. He just turned down a job offer to work on the new Star Trek TV show. He didn't want to be locked-in to 1 project for an extended period of time. Then he showed my a music video has was doing for one of his buddies. It was great, as was the album art that he contributed. We listened to some tracks from the album and they were great too.
The whole package was very professional and sounded great. SO I asked when I could get a copy and he told me he'd send me a link. I told him that I wanted to buy it, but was told I couldn't, because the whole thing will be given away online. The composer wrote everything and played almost all the instruments. Everything else was just friends helping each other or an exchange of work. The guy does it so people can hear it and that's all he cares about. And for the record, it was done on a laptop with Logic Pro and recorded in a living room.
Kind of stands several business models on their heads. Millennials really see things differently.
