In spite of some crashes reported in some threads here I'd like to upgrade to X3. Do you recommend uninstalling the previous versions (X1 and X2) before getting X3? I kept X1d because it was fairly stable and in case of troubles with X2 (indeed, there were!).
Cheers!

Leave both X1 and X2 installed when installing X3. If you are installing Producer and already have a version of Producer, skip DimPro download. The "loops and one shots" are the same as X2 Producer, skip that download too.

I left X2 installed. It went fine.

X2 issues may stem from some issues with certain plugins - mostly 32-bit ones.

I would suggest you consider leaving projects created with X1 or X2 to be finished in X1 or X2, respectably, and begin new projects with X3c.

If you have issues with new projects in X3c, then again look to your plugins, particularly 32-bit ones.

You will also want to get your OS up to current maintenance levels for Windows.

We are here to help with any difficulties during your X3 install.

Additionally, once you install X3a (the base released version), you can skip installation of the X3b patch and just install X3c over X3a.

After installing and patching to X3c, do this http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013315 and make sure Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings "64-bit Double Precision Engine" is not checked. You should be good to go.

Thank you gswitz, Bob (great to skip the b-update!) and scook!
Problem is to leave the old editions on my tiny system-hard drive (128 GB with just 27 GB free space at the moment). I've allready got Dimension Pro with the previous Sonar versions and bought Addictive Drums  a couple of years ago. I guess I just keep the old versions of those and hope there's nothing I'd miss...

Yes, there is no change in DimPro, that is why it is. Addictive drums does not install with SONAR, it comes directly from XLN. Removing the old version of SONAR would free up less than 500MB.
