  • How does TH2 (full) and Mark Studio 2 compare to Amplitube

So my goto guitar and bass sims are Amplitube and Ampeg SVX.
59% off seems like a pretty good deal on the OverLoud Guitar bundle.
I guess I could pull up and use the PC TH2, but that is the "lite" version.
Comments?

meh
I am using Amplitude even though there are some issues with X3 in a 64-bit environment.  Just more flexible and more what I am used to live.  The TH2 stuff is fine.

As far as I'm concerned, for bass amps, the Ampex SVX is as good as it gets.  As for the TH2 vs. Amplitube, you will get a million opinions.  I could never quite get Amplitube to work right for me, and I really like TH2 a lot.  Plays and sounds a bit less like a VST and a bit more like a real amp.  The upgrade to the full adds a few nice models, but you should be able to determine if you like it by playing with the lite version.  It is pretty good without the upgrade.  I have since moved to Scuffham Amps S-Gear, and I have never looked back.  S-Gear is just wonderful, and on the rare occasion that I'm not using s-gear, I do use the TH2.

I like AT for it's clean sound. TH2 is also great. Not much on it's clean though, for me.

I have Mark Bass also. But haven't worked with it enough to be able to make a call. Before I got Mark Bass I used the bass amp that came with AT2 LE. Very clean bass sound.

Ampsims seem a pretty personal thing. I would imagine due in part to the gear you are using, the style of playing and sound you are trying to achieve. The good thing about the Overloud stuff is they all have pretty generous trial versions.

You hit the nail on the head scook. It seems that way for all these things "In-The-Box"

There are free versions of AmpliTube, Guitar Rig, and Line 6 POD Farm. They're quite limited, but they'll give you a feel for the programs.

To me amp sims are like guitars, they're all different. I have pretty much all of them. I use AmpliTube more than any of the others, but all of them make unique sounds the other ones can't make. I do like the Scuffham, BTW, good stuff. The guy who coded it did the code for the Marshall JMP-1 IIRC.

I'm just starting to dig into TH2 and want to check out the full version at some point.

If you want to get an idea of what TH2 can do, check out some YouTube videos by a guy called PixxyLixxx.  He was a Guitar Rig user but switched to TH2, and there are some videos of him taking it through its paces and trying out different amp models.  I don't use Mark Studio 2 or Amplitube so I can't help you with those, sorry.

I've used Amplitube, Guitar Rig, Pod Farm, and the Acme Bar Gig stuff. When Cake turned us on to the TH2 Producer version I was curious enough at first chance to step up to the full version. Now it's been a while since I used the others. TH2 is a great all in one plug. The one thing you should be aware of is the Brunetti amps in the full version of TH2. They are astounding! One of the best sims I have heard so far.
All of that being said, I really want to get my hands on the Scuffham amps. I am really impressed with the sound but I am wondering how the guitar feels in your hands. TH2 seems to have that same response under your fingers with scales and with the bending. That's what I look for in a sim.
