I'm running X2 Pro.  Is it possible to enable "input echo/monitoring" by default?  And, is it possible to enable "loop recording / store takes in separate tracks" by default?
 
I couldn't find anything in either Aud.ini or Cakewalk.ini for this.

Reposting to see if someone can respond. I'd like to know if this can be done.

I do not believe there is a setting to have input echo enabled on an audio track by default. It can be saved in a track template though which can be used instead of inserting an audio track.
 
Storing takes in separate tracks is a per-project preferences setting. If you want it to be the default, open the Normal.cwt (or the project template of your choice) and set the value in Preferences > Project > Record and save the template back.
 

There is a setting in Preferences > Midi > Playback & Recording > Playback > Always Echo Current Midi Track.
 
Quite obviously, this only applies to Midi tracks and there is no audio track equivalent as scook says
