"Power Trip" (Rock)

Hey, Guys,

Wow, I can't believe it's been over six months since I visited my buddies here in the Songs Forum, waaaaaay too long!  Hope everybody's been doing well.  I've been super busy with work, real life and trying to get my new album finished, but it's really nice to be back and also to see some of the old crew back around, too!

Anyway, I just uploaded a test mix for a new song called "Power Trip".  If you have three minutes to check it out, as always, any and all helpful comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, input and ideas are welcome, and also greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any observations, suggestions, comments and ideas!

Bob

EDIT: Mix #4 Up - 8-26-15
Still struggling to get my mixing ears back in shape, I'm hoping this new mix is an improvement and has me headed in the right direction.

Mix #4: Backed off the limiter a bit, beefed up the low end and boosted the bass guitar a touch, hope it's getting closer!

Thanks so much to everyone who helped with much appreciated input, observations, comments, suggestions and advice.  Any other observations, ideas or suggestions would be great!

Best Wishes,
Bob

Walt Collins
Hey Bob!  Sounds like some of the parts had some tempo drift happening, and drifted apart around 1:10 or so, but then came back together by 1:25 on the chorus.

Vocals are strong, guitars are chunky, drums are in your face.  All good!  Great songwriting too.  This'll make a good #1 track on your album.

Bob, it's good to hear from you again.  As always, you capture the high energy performance very well.  Your voice is top notch, as is your guitar work.  As Walt says, the drums are in your face, which is important for this genre.  Personally, I think you could lower the volume on the toms a bit and still not lose any power, and this would bring your vocal more up front, which is the star in this epic.  I don't know how you EQ'd your vocal, but I'd like to hear a little more fat on the bone to thicken it up.  But, this is just my .02 worth, and not a game breaker.  All in all, excellent job, pal.

Hi Bob,

I finally managed to get around to listening to your test mix of Power Trip.

Great guitar work and vocals

Sounds like some of the parts had some tempo drift happening

Ah... I was wondering about that... Could it be there are similar issues elsewhere? Check the part at around 2:14, when the drums come back in. Might just be me but it sounds like the drums and guitar timing drift out a little.

I see you have a PRS

How do you like that Bob? I guess you have quite a few guitars and was wondering where the PRS fits in.

I had a blood rush to the head one day and, even though I do not deserve such a thing, I went and got myself a PRS Studio:-

Such a lovely guitar, and piece of art...

cheers

Good to hear you playing some new stuff Bob and back at home with us. Walt and Lynn have kind of put it all out there, so I will leave you to your work as they have given some great advice and we all know you like good advice and work on those songs until you get them perfected for your albums. Sounds like you have another winner on your hands, so keep up the good work.

Peace and Blessings, John

Big Bob!!....nice to see ya bub! Hope things are well on your end...

This has all right stuff out the gate....its hard for me to give you a good ear as I'm in work (on my 24 night over) but I trust you'll get her where she needs to be in the end...

I'll go in and listen again once I'm on home turf..

nice to see ya bro!

Glad to see you back again Bob! The guitar playing is stellar. Those parts are already really well done, but then when you add thiose panning techniques the song flies...pro level all the way!

I keep wanting to hear a speed metal bass drum part in the background...you know...one of those fat moving parts. Maybe it's just me..the part you have fits though! Great recording on this one too as I have come to expect from you!

Hi Bob, a classic BoB Oister track ! There does seem to be some tempo issues between the vocal and the rhytm guitar in places.

Outstanding Bob!  Love the tune.

Others have addressed any crits I may have.

Love the lead break.  I think you should bring it up a bit in the mix.

Rock on my friend!
