I use FreeFileSync, which isn't fully "real time" automatic but you can set up batch saves and schedule them via Windows scheduler.

Great program that saves me a ton of time when I'm working on projects between laptop and studio system.

Well I wish I could have the same facility saving to my server rather than somebody else's.

Yeah me too...I looked into something like that to sync document folders I wanted to keep synced without having to use Googe Drive or Sky Drive. Surely there must be something which could keep everything synced to your own server or even your own domain space (I have unlimited space with HostGator)? Alas all I could find was some complicated console based app which ran from the command line and looked complicated. That was a few years ago, maybe there's something better now? What I really want is something like FileZilla but with automatic real time or scheduled folder syncing.

I just went searching and found a nice link to 17 Online Synch Tools, and pulled Duplicati from that list to test. If you have your own host site, this will access it via FTP and encrypt all files it uploads. I tested it out with a small job and it works rather nicely. From what I can see, you can select folders you want to include with the synch, scheduling you want, etc. The application must be used to both upload and restore (will allow single file restore, and to a location of your choice) anything, since it does encrypt them during the upload (you can shut this off too). It will link to many "generic" host sites as well, but the FTP option allows uploading to a personal domain easily.

So very recently I had a Sonar related catastrophe...a project file that I'd been working on for weeks got truncated to a measly 51K. Don't know how it happened, more than likely a very unlucky crash while saving. Opening it presented me with a completely empty project. 95% of the project is MIDI so it wasn't as if I could have just reassembled it from the audio.

I immediately opened Gobbler to see what was in my account. There it was, the same truncated file...of course.

So yeah, that feeling of complete and utter horror, denial, shock, rage, sadness etc.

Until I remembered Gobbler's version history. I opened it up....lo and behold, a version from about a half hour before the truncated one. YAY.

Nothing like the feeling of relief you get 30 seconds after you were sure that you'd lost hundreds of hours of work forever. I used to back up to disk regularly before Gobbler, but to be honest sometimes I forgot...it's just so great to know that Gobbler has my back covered automatically. If you're not using it yet then get it working without delay!

WOW!!!! what a cool story! Thank you for sharing!
