  • Pro Channel Add-Ons Issue - Windows 8.1

I hope someone knows something about this since the contact link on CW website is not functioning, I filled out the info to submit a technical support request 5 times and the final link to write the request is unresponsive.

Anyway, I have a clean install of Windows 8.1, bought the new X3 and installed it. All was well for a few days until today. I have some of the Pro-Channel add-ons, La2A, Concrete Limiter, the Expander Gate and Channel Compressor. I installed them tonight and tried to run X3 and got an error message saying "This app can't run on your PC, to find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher."

Any experience or thoughts on this? Do the Pro-Channel add-ons need to be updated for Win 8.1, and even if so, could plug-ins stop X3 from running under Windows? I'm thinking about reinstalling X3 and waiting for more info before installing the Pro-Channel add-ons, but I like them and I paid for them so if they are no longer usable I will be pretty annoyed. Can't say I'm real happy with the monster Sonar install has become in the first place, it now takes longer to install Sonar than it does Windows.

I'm going to keep trying support and if I can't get a message through will call Monday.
If anyone has any help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob M.

Did you install 64 bit Sonar and 64 bit windows?

No

>could plug-ins stop X3 from running under Windows
Yes. Was Sonar running before you installed your plugins?

Try rebooting
Try using Safe mode:

Another cause could be a corrupted installer if you are getting this when installing an application not running it). If this is your scenario download the package again.

Otherwise please show us a screenshot.

Yes, Sonar worked well before the plug-ins. I installed the 4 of them right in a row and then tried to launch X3 and got the error. I took a screenshot but when I tried to attach there were no buttons present in the dialog box to find the image. I am now going to install them separately and reboot between installs and attempting to launch X3 each time.

Interestingly, I logged in to my account to download fresh copies of my Pro-Channel plug-ins and the updated versions of Concrete Limiter, P4CK Channel Comp and the Expander Gate were listed but marked NA and can't be downloaded, the original versions were available for all but the Expander Gate which was not available fro download at all. La2a was there in original form as I don't think there was ever an update, just the upgraded version with side-chaining.

Getting weird, I uninstalled the Pro-Channel plugins, rebooted, X3 launched. Began installing them one by one. Channel Compressor, X3 launched. Concrete Limiter, X3 launched. VKFX Delay, X3 launched. LA2A, X3 failed to launch. Uninstalled LA2A, still failed. Uninstalled each of the others one by one and rebooted, X3 still fails to launch now even though after the initial installs and failure when I uninstalled all of them and rebooted X3 began to launch again, now it will not.

I had this problem with the PC plugins. It seems there were 2 different install versions. The 1.0.0 and the 1.0.1 version. When I first installed the 1.0.0 version I also got the message you are getting. You have to install the older one first and then the newer one . That should take care of the problem.

I think this deserves a phone call to Cakewalk Support.

When I recently installed X2 and then X3 on a new computer, I didn't have any of this goofiness.

Nice little exercise for Cake QA. I'm now going to check my plugin versions with X2.

I installed the 1.0.1 versions first time around. The second time I only installed versions currently available for download on Cake's website, which are originals. The updates released for PC plug-ins are no longer available for download for some reason.

It's a new day, thinking about what to do. I will either uninstall Sonar and completely reinstall, with all my plugs, or I'll have to wait until Monday to hear from Cake.

Is anyone else unable to post an image from their PC on the forum? That's not working for me either, I have a screenshot of my error but the upload dialog is devoid of functionality. Strange weekend.

In order to post an image to the forum, you first have to upload to a sight like photo bucket, or some other sight like it, then copy the URL info into your post, then it will show up. You can not post an image direct from your computer.

OK, so here is the error message fwiw. I did use photobucket but I would prefer they fix the upload function here. Since I'm whining I have to add that I really like the upgrades made to this forum this year, I think it's one of the best forums I use, the speed improvement really stands out.
