hi all,
just installed X3, and it's great, but when i lay down a MIDI track, and want to overdub on top of it on the same track, it overwrites what's already there. Never did this in X2. I've checked and checked the MIDI record settings, and can't find anything. HELP.

If you select Comping as the Recording Mode in the Project, Record section of Preferences, you'll get a take lane for each new recording

Preferences (P) > Project > Record > Recording Mode > Sound on Sound

This should fix it, if not, please report back

bristol, yes it did fix it. What will that do to my audio recording now?

Er, yes it will. So be careful and remember to switch it back if you want to replace something (more likely scenario) rather than blend old & new recordings

It's good to make a practice of consciously choosing <Record Mode> each time you start on a new track/clip/etc...that's why they made it SO easy in this release! It will give you a lot of creative freedom and, in many cases, reduce the amount of editing you have to do.
