Just upgraded to X3c last week, and enjoying it so far. I have a question about Melodyne (the included Essential version) which the manual does not appear to answer. After creating a Region FX clip of my monophonic sound file, and then dragging it onto a MIDI track, my MIDI info is created as expected. What is missing though, is any kind of subtle pitch inflection, which I would have expected to be added via pitch bend information. All I get is a very simplified version of the notes played, with any slurs etc. stripped out. Is this just how Melodyne works when it comes to pitch to MIDI, or are there settings/procedures I have missed? I used a pitch to MIDI app sometime in the past that definitely included this extra pitch data, but I don't recall its name now, and it definitely did not have the brilliant integration with SONAR that Melodyne does. Thanks for any input.
 

I upgraded to the Editor, so cannot test what you are seeing; then came across the link below in another thread (Melodyne's site about ARA and X3), which basically says that the Melodyne export to MIDI is not included in the Essential version. Based on this, I believe the functionality you are seeing is the ARA/X3's Audio to MIDI conversion. I have not used this much at all, so hopefully someone who has can chime in.

"MIDI export Even with ARA, a command is provided in the “Settings” menu of Melodyne editor and Melodyne assistant (but not Melodyne essential) for the exporting of MIDI. But ARA makes exporting MIDI to a Sonar track far simpler: if you have previously opened a clip in Melodyne, all you need to do is drag it by its upper handle to a MIDI or instrument track within your Sonar arrangement. Note that the polyphonic conversion of audio to MIDI is only possible with Melodyne editor or the trial version when activated. Otherwise the conversion of audio to MIDI is always monophonic, and also functions in Melodyne’s playback mode.
Tip: it is not, in fact, necessary to create a Region FX with Melodyne in order to convert audio to MIDI. It suffices to drag it to a MIDI or instrument track in the manner already described. The requisite exchange of information with Melodyne is performed by Sonar in the background using the ARA protocol."
 
The only other "quick test" may be to remove the FX region and drag and drop the clean audio track into a MIDI track and see if you get the same result.

I did a quick test on the drag and drop feature by making a quick pitch bend sound in a mic and then dragging and dropping it onto a midi track. What it gave me was discrete notes and split them at the point that my voice crossed the threshold to the next note. Oscillating a tone twice gave me 5 distinct notes with only note (on/off), duration, and velocity data.

Thanks Mettelus. Sounds like the essential version only does basic pitch to MIDI (i.e. no pitch bend, only notes), which is disappointing. Can anyone using the more advanced versions confirm that the pitch to MIDI in those versions is more advanced, and includes conversion of bend data? Thanks.

I just recorded an oscillating wave in Melodyne Editor, saved the wav, and then save it as MIDI. I imported both into X3, dragged the wav to a MIDI clip and compared the two. The X3 Audio->MIDI actually gave me 3 more notes, but both MIDI tracks only contained note data.
 
I would recommend shooting Celemony an email with your question, as they are the experts on the product. http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=contact (info AT celemony DOT com). They are very responsive to questions, so can tell them what you would like to do and ask "Can this be done?"
 
I may not be doing the Melodyne conversion correctly, or it may have other options available.

melodyne studio is the only version of melodyne that performs this function.  the upgrade from essential is $599 and from editor is $299.  i don't need pitch bend data on polyphonic material, so i typically just use variaudio in cubase to extract midi with pitch bend/vibrato information from monophonic sources.

oh, yeah... you can also do this with vvocal if you have x2 or earlier...
