Here's my chance to conduct free market research from the target audience

Now, I'm not guaranteeing anything because I'm pretty darn busy these days, but I would indeed like to do more videos. What I'm thinking about is a video on mastering in Sonar. I feel X3 turned a corner and this is now not only viable, but you can actually do some pretty cool mastering tricks.

But...because my time is indeed limited, I may only get a chance to do one or two videos...so I want to choose wisely. Does mastering seem like a good idea? Any other suggestions?

Your assistance would be most appreciated.

Great idea and offer Craig.

Mastering is a big +1 and EQ if possible (instrument by instrument - not a generic EQ overview) I know it's a big area but would be worthwhile I think.

This is a good topic to do a video on. There are good videos that already show the features of Sonar and explain basic operations. There are mixing videos, but I can not think of anyone who has done a mastering video using Sonar. This is something I would be very much interested in buying.

Would you use any third party plugs or only the stuff that comes in Sonar? would you take an entire song and master it, or would you just show tips using a collection of different music.

I am sure it will be a best seller and I for one am looking forward to it.

I'd likely use only the tools that come with Sonar...it's a pretty complete toolset. I'm still undecided about whether it would be best to take an entire song and show everything involved in mastering it, or doing a collection of tips. Some of it depends on getting permission to use songs from various clients to demo mastering techniques; some of them have specific problems that make it really easy to show solutions.

I'd say do like Seth and Brandon did...go thru the motions with one song, and show how you can go from a rough recording to a finished product, showing numerous mastering tips along the way. That's what got me excited about the Pro Channel.

Craig . . . would love to see you do the video on Mastering ! . . . but for your other one ;), perhaps something about setting up vocal tracks in a mix.
Not so much about the new Melodyne trickery, but some tips about how to get vocals sitting in a mix, and use of doubling, reverb, delay, compression, automation etc . . .
I'll stay tuned for whatever vids you do, I'm sure they'll be great.
