Please do this ... can we do anything for you?

You already are, you're giving me free consulting!

The Bakers are doing their part, too. The Gibson acquisition process could have turned into a disaster if X3 had been problematic. Instead, it was a great rollout of a mature program. So instead of having to worry about damage control, I could start thinking about what could take this further...and the Bakers have made it clear they'd like to see more videos.

Yes Craig.

This would fill a gap in your "product range", and I like the idea of taking a single, mixed track and applying your own brand of mastering technique to it.

+1 from me

I would like to see the video start with the "mixed" track with some explanation of why you should "leave headroom for mastering" - and some guidance on how much headroom to leave - ie what level should you mix to?

I definitely like the idea of a video on mastering.  IIRC, you floated the idea back during X1, I think.  I guess the move to Gibson put the kibosh on that.

I'm so glad that you may be able to do it now, and look forward to it.

I'd go for the one track vote too Craig as I think there's less inclination towards album releases these days, especially from small unsigned bands and artists, that like to showcase themselves on soundcloud, bandcamp, iTunes and the like.

But, whatever you feed us will be gratefully accepted.

Yes mastering is a great idea. I have not "exploit" the Sonar tools enough yet.

I have a couple of suggestion.

Show us how to set the frequency range of a multiband compresser like the LP64.

Show us some common mistakes of mastering so that we know what not to do.

Perhaps show us how to  master 2 to 3 different styles or music. For example a guitar based rock/metal music and somethings else like EDM.

+++ to the above comments.  Many obviously experienced contributors to these threads have previously spoken of needing to outside Sonar for mastering.  I wonder why?  I have found Craig's previous videos (and Karl's too) very helpful.  I'd love to see more on this topic.  But please, some tips on acoustic instruments too!

I like the idea a lot!

My suggestion is take examples of decent mixes to work from like country and pop. And then focus on mastering versus mixing.
- Basic starting points
- What's typically problematic areas - or - what's the typical mistakes / oversights that elude us
- Is there low hanging fruit
- Standard mastering goals from a professional viewpoint
- Loudness vs quality vs loudness
- Secret sauce tips (bring on the magic)

Thanks!!
