Might I suggest that you take paid pre-orders, or perhaps even better, lets set up a "crowd funding" project.

Crowd funding Gibson ?  An interesting idea.

For myself, I'd like to see some more guitar-related content.

As mastering is something that's very specific to the piece of music in question (and how it's been mixed), as well as requiring a particular listening environment and good, experienced ears, I'm not sure how much can be taught/learnt from a video.

Having said that I like all your videos so would buy another whatever the content :-)

+1 on guitar related content. It is amazing how much you can learn from these videos. It was not enough to watch the video. I followed along doing the tricks Craig taught in his first two videos. You got to experiment with the ideas in the video and put them into practice.

For me the easiest way to do this was with my computer setup and a dual screen monitor. The video played on one screen and Sonar was open on the other screen. It really helped in getting all I could from the knowledge presented. I just followed along on what was being taught. I did the same thing with all the videos I purchased from cakewalk.

This is a great way to learn how to get the most out of Sonar.

...wicked
Uh, YES!

I'm a big believer in real-world exampled are the best teachers, but even in the case of a mastering video, I'd say take an actual project and master it, hitting the necessary teaching points along the way. If it's a common technique but not applicable to the project you can always A/B that concept...but using MiLaR as an example having a real-world project to reference back to makes for good material!

Where did you get that idea?  Craig is doing this in his time - afaik he does not work for either CW or Gibson - just because he is an admin of the site does not make him an employee. Further, nothing in his OP suggests Gibson (CW) is paying him anything for this work.

I find that while may people are full of enthusiasm and promises when something is free, they suddenly lose said enthusiasm if it is something they need to contribute to ($'s wise) at least with something like "crowd funding" Craig gets a list of genuinely interested folk (not tyre kickers) prepared to invest a little in the overall project

Yes mastering is a great idea. I have not "exploit" the Sonar tools enough yet.

I have a couple of suggestion.

Show us how to set the frequency range of a multiband compresser like the LP64.

Show us some common mistakes of mastering so that we know what not to do.

Perhaps show us how to  master 2 to 3 different styles or music. For example a guitar based rock/metal music and somethings else like EDM.

co-sign on this.  A lot of mastering videos do the one size fits all approach.  Mastering a full orchestra track, minimalist techno, solos didgeridoo songs and top 40 hip-hop will undoubtedly have variation in process.

I may be mistaken, but it is my understanding that Craig is an archangel at Gibson.

And this should probably appear somewhere in Craig's signature, as it does for Cakewalk employees.

No no, Craig is minister of magic!

Maybe chief magic officer.

First of all, thanks for all the great ideas, like showing common mistakes as well as what to do right.

Some other points: Yes, I am currently a Gibson employee. Never thought of including it in my sig because I come to this forum primarily as a user; participation is not part of my job description and I come here on my own time . The only exception to that was answering questions about Gibson's intended acquisition of CW when that was first announced. As to whether the video would be done on my own or be part of what I do for Gibson, that remains to be seen. Gibson is into educating users so it would be a good fit, but there's a lot to do at Gibson. The video might end up being a "weekends" project...we'll see.

As to people being interested in the video but ultimately not buying it, that doesn't concern me. The first two videos did very well. People asked for more videos at the time, but I said I wasn't going to do videos just for the sake of doing videos. However, I think mastering in Sonar is a video well worth doing. In addition to techniques I would also cover some of the background on mastering.

As to guitar-oriented material, that's something else I've considered. But that might lend itself more to a series of videos on YouTube or something...not sure. For now, a video on mastering with Sonar seems to feel right.

Thanks again for all your input and the great suggestions!!
