I would love to know how to take the few to several to many tracks that comprise the songs I write and sing/play with varying degrees of (non-)expertise and craft them into something really solid, sonically.
I tend to write wordy songs that are long and fairly simple, instrumentally. I have a soft voice (female) but good pitch and am decent, but by no means great, on several instruments. My strong points are probably lyrics and song structure and my weak point is probably a lack of bravura technique on any one instrument.
Typically, I'll have at least one voice and acoustic guitar. From there, maybe an acoustic 12-string and some harmony vocals. Possibly play a bass track on my good old Fender bass. If there's more, it may be to stick on some keyboard parts posing as various instruments to fill in the extra sounds that I may have in my head. Artificial drums may or may not ice the cake. Whatever the combination, it's all played by me, so necessarily recorded one part at a time.
So, it's always some actual acoustic tracks and sometimes additional various synthetic sounds that I have to fashion into some sort of pleasing and cohesive whole.
I include all of these details in case it may have a small influence on what is included in any mastering tutorial you might release. Many tutorials seem to begin with the idea that most music consists predominantly of midi or at least of electronic tracks. I'm hoping you wouldn't forget us mostly acoustic musicians.
Any guidance and/or tips from you would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, and best of luck!
