I recently purchased Guitar Rig 5 to try to expand the tone options provided by my Line 6 POD HD desktop. I'm using Sonar X3 and using the POD as my soundcard, ASIO drivers at the lowest possible latency settings. 
 
Here's what I'm doing to give some context for my issue.
 
1. Creating project
2. Creating new track with Line 6 POD as the input
3. Selecting a direct, completely clean preset on the POD, which of course my guitar is plugged into
4. Adding "Guitar Rig 5" to the track's FX bin
5. Turning "Input Echo" on so I can hear the effect as I play and experiment with different settings
 
OK, here then is my issue. I'm hearing both the CLEAN sound from my POD AND the Guitar Rig 5 effects when I play. What I want to do is hear ONLY the processed sound from the effect. Is this possible with my setup? I can't figure out how to mute the incoming clean sound from the POD so I can only hear the processed sound from Guitar Rig.
 
Using Windows 7, 64-bit, Sonar X3, ASIO drivers, lowest latency settings, and again, the POD is being used as my soundcard. I also have an older MAudio Delta 66 that I am NOT using, in case that could offer some sort of potential solution.

You need to disable the internal monitoring in the Pod of the signal.

Sorry to sound like a dolt, but is that something within the POD itself that I need to disable, or is that something I'd do within Sonar?

You need to mute your input.
I believe it's in the asio dialog box with the pod. Click edit, preferences, audio devices and look for the asio button. I have a HD500, but I've been going into a presonus 44vsl for so long I can't remember. If this doesn't work PM me and I'll hook up the same way and find out for you.

Thanks, Clint. Was going to PM you, but apparently I don't have enough posts on the board yet to be able to do that. I thought I'd figured this out earlier, but my ears were playing tricks on me. 
 
Anyway, I've gone into the ASIO panel for my pod, and I can't find anything that seems to jump out at me as far as muting my input. Here's what I'm seeing:
 
Two separate tabs, one for "Driver," the other for "Inputs and Recording". 
 
Under the "Driver" tab, I have the slider for setting buffer size, the general ASIO settings for default buffer size and bit depth, and then another button that says "Sound Control Panel." Clicking on that opens the Windows 7 sound dialog, and I can't seem to find anything in there that works for me.
 
As far as the "Inputs and Recording" tab goes, I have a box labeled "Record Sends: 1-2 Main Out". 
I then have two sliders, one for "Hardware Monitor Level" and one for "Record Send Level." I tried lowering the "Hardware Monitor Level" completely, but then I don't hear anything at all.

When you turn the "Hardware monitor level" down completely (Line 6 audio devices control panel), do you have the "input echo" button on? Is it blue? I thought that would do the trick.

I do remember the roundtrip latency of the HD500 was a bit too much for me when using Amplitube (seems like it was in the 14 range). I bought the Presonus 44vsl and run the two 1/4 HD500 outs into the 1 left/2 right of the Presonus (it has 4 inputs)and now my roundtrip latency is 7.3! The 44vsl has it's own interface gui and I can simply mute the two tracks from it. I can select mono or stereo input in the track inspector in Sonar.

Thanks so much, Clint, that did INDEED do it! I didn't realize at first that even though the sound totally disappeared while in the dialog window, it would come back after hitting "apply" with input echo on. Appreciate that very much! Sometimes these simple things elude me, and I've never had a need to turn off hardware monitoring before. 
 
Yeah, my roundtrip on the POD is 14.3. I'm not hearing any audible issues, though. I think I can do the same thing you describe above with my MAUDIO Delta 66 if I want to go back to fooling with that, so I might see how that works out. Thanks so much for taking the time to help!
