Well I had SONAR X3c  crashing on me everytime I tried to load a song/composition recorded in earlier versions. It would crash and I would sometimes even get the Corrupted files error which freaked me out.  Well I un-installed (completely un-installed) SONAR X2  and SONAR X3 - I then re-installed SONAR X3 (initial release) and everything is fine I can now load all previously recorded songs and compositions.  The only thing that does not come  up are a few plug-ins that I take are no longer available in SONAR X3.  I new the Old cakewalk delays ect... from effects packs 1,2, and 3 were no longer available.  However, I noticed the VC64 compressor is no longer available... Was this taken out of SONAR X3? was it because it was 32bit?    No biggie as I can replace it with another compressor... Its just I really liked the VC64 for some things.

Occasionally Cakewalk drops a plug-in from the product. The VC-64 was included for years but unfortunately the company that made the plug-in went out of business. The VC-64 is stuck at 32bit.

Most of the old Cakewalk FX1-3 series were never ported to 64bit. This is even more of a problem than the VC-64 because the Cakewalk plug-ins are DX plug-ins. VST plug-ins can run in a 64bit host using BitBridge (or jBridge), DX plug-ins cannot. It is possible to run all the older plug-ins in a 32bit host and both the 32bit and 64bit versions of SONAR run fine on the same machine.

It is possible to install discontinued plug-ins from previous version by running the advanced install option for previous versions. Many people do install older plug-ins if only to open older projects.
