An old folk classic taught in primary school, brings back memories. Translating to "Across the waves", here it is in our own celtic language of Gaeilge, the song "Trasna na dTonnta"
.
I have just completed the video of this today, which takes in footage of local fishermen working off the south-east coast of Ireland.

Enjoy!

Cian

Curfá:
Trasna na dtonnta, dul siar, dul siar,
Slán leis an uaigneas ‘is slán leis an gcian;
Geal é mo chroí, agus geal í an ghrian,
Geal a bheith ag filleadh go hÉirinn!

Chonaic mo dhóthain de Thíortha i gcéin,
Ór agus airgead, saibhreas an tsaoil,
Éiríonn an croí ‘nam le breacadh gach lae
‘S mé druidim le dúthaigh mo mhuintir!

Curfá

Muintir an Iarthair ‘siad cairde mo chroí,
Fáilte ‘is féile bheidh romham ar gach taobh.
Ar fhágaint an tsaoil seo, sé ghuidhim ar an Rí
Gur leosan a shinfear i gcill mé.

Cian,

Sounds great, and sounds happy even though I don't understand the words:)  Everything is good to my ears.   Love the sound of the drums.

What a beautiful melody! Can't wait to read the lyrics - please post.
Love the arrangement.
You have some frequency buildup in the 300-400hz range. Maybe filter out some so that the overall level and presence can come up a notch. Look at the bass and drums for that.

Could use a push at 60hz as well.

That could make the low drum produce more punch.

Lovely song.

Hi Cian,

I enjoyed listening to Trasna Na dTonnta. Your strong vocal style really suits this song.

If I was to add anything to this, then it would be in the form of more traditional Irish instruments... Perhaps a lead solo with some uilleann pipes... And some trad percussion too.

Just a thought... The song stands up really well as it is Cian, so don't change a thing for me

cheers

Thanks all.

I have tweaked the track again

The only thing Im worried about is the backing vocals at around the 2:30 mark

Rimshot, Ive subtly applied some of your suggestions.

Andy, great idea for sure, but those instruments are not feasible at the moment.

Big smiles again. I'd bring your vocals up just a hair, the big drum washes them out just a bit when it hits.

Backing vocals work great as they are imho.

cheers,

Great music, Cian.  We plan to go across the waves sometime soon.  maybe we can hear it live!  It's really a nice tune and I like the way you did it.  Sounds live.

That's really good Cian. Vocals are wonderful, right up there and supported by a fine arrangement which builds nicely. Top job.

Loved it.  I think I remember my grandfather singing this song when I was very young.
