Can anyone give me the heads up on this. Is it advisable to use the products through CC and if so what are the benefits? Secondly, if i d/l my software outside of CC will I have more control over it?

Many thanks

Not sure what you mean by "use products" through CCC? Running programs through CCC not advisable from experience.

In regards to installation:
CCC downloads all files to a specific downloads folder which you can backup.
Assuming you set "verbose" mode installation is exactly the same as you would do if you ran each installer separately.

There's no difference between using the downloads from your My Products page or using CCC. I did both over the lat few weeks and CCC is way easier to use because it keeps track of what you've done.
Using the downloads works too but you need to write everything down as you go.
As well you have to do the offline activation of Splat which takes a few extra moves and a few minutes.
Both work but I like CCC.
Once your done with CCC you can back up the Command Center Download folder ( Program Data/Cakewalk/Command Center)  which is the same back up you would have if you download direct.

Thank you - so if I back up my software in CCC can I then transfer the programmes to a new PC when i eventually get it?

Not the "Programs" per say.. But you can transfer the "Installers".

Ya sort of confusing what your saying.
CCC is an automatic updateing tool you use to install and keep track of what is installed and up to date.
CCC has a download folder it puts the needed files in and once everything is up to date you can actually delete all those files and everything will still work. They are the same installers found in your MY Products page.

But what most of us have done is to copy those files in the CCC download folder to a back up drive first then delete them to save disk space. There can end up being over 25 GB of data otherwise.   Some might keep a few of SPlat's older versions on hand just encase they decide to roll back.

If you have never deleted anything in that folder and everything is upto date. For sure copy that folder to a back up drive for future use. I recommend 3 copies.

You cannot use CCC to re download a file that is already installed and up to date.

To get those files you go directly to your My Products page and download those. They will end up in your Browser Download folder where you can copy them over to a back up drive.
I always clear my Download folder out before I do this.
I might copy my download folder to a back up drive first as it might have other files I need later like software installers.

Where does CCC keep an offline authorization file that can be used to authorize reinstallation if your current system/disk fails in the event that online authorization is no longer available? My understanding is that the authorization file is specific to the computer it is requested from. If CCC downloaded installation files are stored remotely, will moving them back to the original machine after a repair allow reinstallation and reauthorization without going online again?

I'm not sure it is actually stored anywhere.
It's a system where you request the number , you have to be logged on to your account, and a page with the reponce code shows up and you enter that. One could also save that code to a txt file and see if it would work later on but I kind of think not.  I guess I could try it if I have time. I installed Splat to a computer at work just to test the offline activation system and see how it worked. I could un install it and then re install and see what happens. Oh, that won't work, I didn't save that code.
I guess I could try uninstalling and re installing and that would proove there was something hidden, but dout that would work. But I could then save the code and re install,, but that's a lot of work and I'm not worried at this point.

I'm very optimistic by what Noel has said up top there that we will see this one last issue dealt with.

A related issue, assuming you have secured an offline activation file for your installation: How much can be changed on the originally activated machine without requiring another activation request. I am assuming that the change of a hard drive alone would not invalidate the original activation, but does anyone know?
