  • Good News: Slate VCC v.s. Sonar X3C.

So, many of you followed my loud and emotional (frustrated) rants about Slate VCC not being stable in Sonar X3c.

In the interest of fairness (and yes, I am sometimes loud, but that goes for both criticism AND praise), I am happy to report that after a very extensive step-by-step process that Slate Digital emailed to me, the problem is 99% handled. Here-and-there I still get a crash related to the use of the VCC plugin in X3C (Slate is currently rebuilding all their plugins), but on the whole I can now say that Sonar X3C Producer x64 is by far the smoothest and fastest DAW I've ever owned. And very stable.

Thanks to all who cared enough to send advice, ideas, sympathy and butt-kickings my way :O)

Happy music making to all.

Ludwig

That's great news.. I also have VCC and so far yet in any of my projects I have not gotten to any mixing (just tracking and building).. so I haven't come across any issues with VCC. If you have a detailed workaround from Slate can you share it with us or me privately? That would be great appreciated. =)

I did a rough mix recently using all stock plugins from X3 (and I THINK some UAD2 plugins).. and noticed a bit of HISS in my mix.. which I began to think was from the X3 CE and/or tape emu that I had on there for the rough mix. I would probably use the slate stuff for the final.. but haven't AB'd them personally yet...

Thanks

Why should this be private? We are all interested...

Here's the mail from Kevin Dresel, Slate Digital. I must add that in doing this process I also scanned the system with Advanced System Care, and I did find two expired demo licences (Slate VCC Demo and Slate FG-X Demo) on the iLok, which got removed. I asked kevin about that and he said it may have been a contributing factor. All and all, it added up to a vastly more stable system.

Hi Ludwig,
As per the forum post, we are in contact with Ryan Munnis and have issued plug-ins for himself and techs to run diagnostics to confirm any issues. We are due to be porting VCC through our new framework soon and shall address those outstanding known issues as well as those brought to light. We test all our plug-ins through Q/A and in beta with those major DAWs, and such has only been noted to ourselves recent by Cakewalk.
Please kindly attach screenshot of the VCC about box panel to confirm version, and we would welcome crash reports for our developers to review.
In the interim, I would advise the following to re-install from a clean base…
1. Remove VCC from your system…
VCC plug-in from the following directories: -
- Your VST plug-ins directory
- RTAS in “C:\Program Files \Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins” if you have 32 bit OS, or “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins” if you have 64 bit OS.
Remove VCC Settings file from...
- For Windows 7 - C:/ProgramData/Slate Digital/Virtual Console Collection/VCC Settings
2. Remove all PACE related drivers in system, and re-install iLok License Manager
3. Open iLM, deactivate and reactivate license on your key and run Sync/Repair.
4. Run Piriform CCleaner to fix any registry issues - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
5. Reboot
6. Install VCC 1.5.2, latest available from your user account area.
7. Launch your DAW and rescan plug-ins.
Thanks!

After I had done this and it worked, i developed an issue where the Channel Bus VCC would not insert into a new track. I removed VCC from Cakewalk Plug-In Manager, and redid the entire process as above, and then it did work perfectly. I suspect that Sonar was still looking for the wrong versions of the plugin. Either way, it's good now...

PS, Studio343, Slate VCC also hisses. It's the nature of the process, apparently. You can google the whole thing on Sound On Sound's review if i remember correctly..

Thank you for the update! There have been quite a few folks who had issues and will probably benefit from this feedback.

I'm glad you got that one sorted out. I had found it odd since I never had any issues with any of my Slate plugins and Sonar and we have similar systems. Anyway, hopefully your post with instructions will help others with similar problems (marking that as helpful).

VCC is the main cause of projects not loading for me.  Every time, except once, it was just a matter of closing/reopening Sonar, but it's been this way since X1.  It's a downer when you're inspired and syced to mix and then have to wait an extra few minutes for the app to load while you cross your fingers.

I'm happy that things are being looked at!

Fooman, this really worked. I suggest you do the same. I almost had to remix an album because of exactly the problem you describe.
