This has taught me if nothing else to consistently save my work.....At random points, and I do find it difficult to recreate but it has started happening so frequently that I really don't get a chance to try too much. While rendering, sample converting or a few other operations, if the software has to 'think' or work to hard, it freezes (not responding) never to return...I have waited literally for hours. Not the computer, just the software, all other functions of the PC are stable and functioning during these episodes. I am running Sonar X3c, the updater states that I am up to date,

 I am using a Roland fantom X8, with a FA66 interface.
I have painstakingly tried to piece together parts that would play well together (Roland, Cakewalk products) to circumvent this from happening..but alas here I am.
I know this is tough but if someone could guide me as to where to start looking to rectify this problem. Each time I lose everything since my last save, many time I have been trying to finish one take to get to a save point and there it goes.
 
I used to use Cool Edit which became Adobe Audition that never gave me this grief with a much lighter system. I dunno..... anybody got any ideas??

Your best bet is to post in the main X series forum above this one. Many more eyes and opinions up there. Also, if you are in the US, a phone call to tech support can sometimes make quick work of stability problems. You may also want to indicate whether you are using 32bit or 64bit SONAR. If you are using 64bit SONAR and still using 32bit plug-ins that can be a problem.

Yes, I am using the 64bit Sonar.

In the browser 32bit plug-ins are green and their name is appended with (32 bit). Also their UI will not have the normal VST header.

Thanks again, I'll look again in the browser and see if I can make my way in there. Seems like it happens a lot while I'm trying to find a decent drum track, some when inserted lose the drum tone and sound like a poorly played piano or keyboard. Are those 32bit, and should I try to avoid them? I have the dickens of a time trying to find anything in that dern browser. The guys in the videos make it look so easy, they just click away and voila, a great sounding drum track. I go through the same steps and get junk and crashes. It just did it again, I don't see 32 on the string  of any file in the browser, just now it crashed doing a 'sample rate conversion' of a string with a MP3 or WAV flag in front of it. My old eyes are not the best in the world but all the strings in the browser appear to be green. Is there just not anything in there that I need to be using. I sure would like to be able to have a drum track, that will be my next Hooray!! moment. Thanks again for the help scook! I really do appreciate your time and patience.

From that description, you are looking at audio files in the media tab of the browser. The plug-in tab would be where the plug-ins are located. 64bit SONAR does install some 32bit plug-ins so there would definitely be both 32 and 64bit plug-ins on your PC. But, it is starting to sound like that is not your problem. It sound more fundamental that a plug-in problem. Your best bet at this time is to post in the X series forum above.
