Besides the issue with the 64-bit engine being enabled, X3c has been very stable and we've received positive feedback on it. I would go for X3c.

And we are currently busy working on X3d, which will fix the 64-bit engine issue.

A restore point is so SIMPLE. A rollback is SIMPLE. Fear not the X3C!

I actually use Panu's Duckbar for restore points within Sonar. It acts like regular system restore but only restores Sonar. I have both X3 b and c installed and I can switch between the two. Duckbar makes Sonar soooo much better! Thanks again Panu!!

(quick edit-Duckbar restore takes about 15 seconds as opposed to a full system restore which takes 10 or 15 minutes. Just sayin')

Personally, with the more frequent updates we're getting in X3, this is a positive swing in direction. What it means is that, when/if there is an issue or new feature, the next version isn't too far away and we are more likely to see a more incremental fix. I'm a fan of more frequent updates. Even though the letter following the X(n) version may creep up higher than one would hope for, it does routinely show Cakewalk is on top of making fixes and updates.

So, I don't sell this short. With that said, if X3b is working fine and you experience an issue with X3c, then wait for X3d. It's also nice that these updates are comprehensive, meaning you can install X3a and go directly to X3c. I like that. The main thing I focus on is not which version I'm on, but rather, how well I'm able to work. If the DAW isn't in my way, I'm happy. Newer updates may fix bugs I've yet to run into, but I'm ok with that!

Here's to great times!

So to answer my question, if the 64-bit engine works fine in X3a, and X3a is very stable for me, what "features" would I see by updating to X3c? Just bug fixes that I don't need?

I'm just have too much fun with X3a to update for the sake of updating.

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/product.aspx/SONAR-X3 If you click on an update, the bug fixes are listed on the patch download page for each. If you are running smooth with X3a, there is no "need" to update.

X3b and X3c did resolve a lot of issues that had been noted, and disabling the 64-bit Double Precision Engine is nothing "major." Craig's point is very valid, in that folks often post here only when they have issues. The ones who are running smoothly are spending more time making music (which is a good sign).

The issue with the 64-bit engine was introduced in X3c. So you could update to X3b if you use the 64-bit engine. There was a lot of VST3 compatibility fixes and other features. They are listed in the knowledge base articles.

Doesn't everyone need bug fixes? You don't know what's being fixed........

The Force is strong in this one.

The whole point is making music. If something's working for you, great! I upgraded to X3c because I need to be on top of things, but if I was still on the original X3, I'd still be making music. X3c did fix a few things that mattered to me, so it was worth it.
