  • FAO Cakewalk - RE X3 UPGRADES NOT AVAILABLE IN UK............ [ANSWERED] Thanks Andrew :)

Tried to do this via the "contact us" section on website, but it won't let me make a "pre-sales" enquiry without quoting an order no. or the product serial number (how am I supposed to do that seeing as it's a pre-sale enquiry ??)

I've been waiting patiently, but starting to get fed up fo waiting for retailers to have stock, so having a bit of spare time today, started to make a few enquiries of retailers. Having done this, it seems that it is not possible in the UK to buy a boxed set upgrade unless you have X2. I have been told by several retailers that this is because Cakewalk will not allow it......Really ?????? So, the only way to get boxed version in the UK without already owning X2 is to pay for the download, then the boxed set and then unspecified shipping costs from USA ? Are the actual boxes of discs not all the same whichever the upgrade ? Seems ridiculous for customers who already have to pay more to then have to order and pay shipping on a seperate box when a retailer local to them already has them on the shelf.  Can you enlighten me as to the logic of this ?

Some retailers who stocked Sonar X2 were completely unaware that there even was an X3. Hey CW people, do you wanna sell this stuff or not ???

That's where I got my copy Andrew.

But the only upgrade they offer is from X2 - you have to enter your X2 serial number into their ordering system.

Thanks for responding Andrew. That's one of the retailers I spoke to via telephone as BristolJonesey correctly says their website insists on an X2 serial number before you can order. They say that I have to have X2 because Cakewalk/Roland/whoever have told them that's all they are allowed to sell. Scan.co.uk have no upgrade prices at all, only full price versions @ £385 and again saying that this is the all they are allowed to sell and have had to turn away many potential upgrade customers and have been told that upgrades are only available via CW.  Other retailers I have spoken to also only have full versions on offer and even these are not actually in stock and have a TBA delivery date. I have tried quite hard on this, but just can't help feeling that it really shouldn't be this difficult.

My X3 box from Et Cetera has a red sticker saying 'Upgrade from SONAR X2 Producer'. The order process required an X2 serial number, and the online registration did as well. I guess the X3 serial number has embedded data in it.

Not sure why other UK vendors are not selling this upgrade. As for upgrading from other versions, I guess those boxes haven't arrived. Et Cetera used to sell the full range of options, but not this time.

Delivery is £6.00 within mainland UK. I wish the costs were put up front and not hidden) so they are actually selling the upgrade for £115.00.
When you enter the serial number just click CANCEL and you can carry on as before... So you can at least try to buy it (IMHO strange policy).

I'm told that the other boxed upgrades will be available next week in UK.
