Hi,

How can I make sonar x3 ignore prof sends from midi clips.
They keep changing the patch on the synth.

thanks
joni

i am sure there is a fancy way, but i usually just go in with the event viewer and delete the PC (program change)  messages

+1 - it's usually easy to find those in the list.

I'm sure there is a setting in preferences>midi, if not you can probably disable patch change receive on your synth.

[edit] yup! it's in preferences.midi.playback and recording.patch changes.

The settings in MIDI Playback and Recording only allow suppressing the recording of certain messages. There is no option to suppress them on playback. They'll have to be removed from the track or moved to another lane that's muted, or have their channel changed and limit the receive channel of the synth.

Because the Event List has a filter you can show only Program Changes and delete just them with your delete key.

You could, if you want, place a Midi filter FX on the track, and have it filter out the bank and program changes.

A lot depends on what on what you're trying to do. If, for instance, you were working with a orchestral track using a key-switched orchestral library (i.e. GPO4) and the patch change represented the same instrument with a different articulation (i.e pizzicato strings), you'd simply place a key-switch to switch the articulation - leaving the bank switch in place as a reference.

In other situations, it's simply easier to cut out a clip of the different instrument after the patch change (and up until the next, if any) and place the new clip onto a new track.

Last, there are times when you truly wish to keep the same instrument; you just delete or filter the patch change.

Most VSTi's these days do nothing/ignore patch changes, since most DAW's aren't limited in the number of tracks they support. The few that do are usually GM oriented and need to support the standard midi bank and patch setting commands.
