Thanks Shambler!

I'll try that. Did not think of that I might should unistall de VC++ redist's.
I know what keys I should remove to make a complete uninstall of SONAR.

What I don't understand is if it's really just me that is having this problem if it's related to some update of Windows.

Best Regards

Maybe you should try to bring back your computer to a date when everything worked and try from there. A lot less work and maybe some answers.

Now you are getting me :) ZX80s simply worked as long as you left them alone. Ended up working as a very good door stop.

Hi again!

Problem solved! Thought I just should report that.

I uninstalled and reinstalled all the VC++ Redistributables from 2010 and 2012. That did not change anything.
After that I performed a clear uninstall and reinstall of SONAR X3 and now everything is working again.

Still not really sure what caused this but the only thing I could think of is some kind of automatic Windows update.

Thanks to everyone assisting!
Now we just have to beat Portugal in the soccer game tonigt ...

So much to auto-updates ... one day your DAW works, the next day it doesn't.

That's why I don't do any updates when the DAW is running stable (which X2a did really nicely), unfortunately X3b/X3c made me go into this updating game and yet isn't there where X2a was ...

I've been reporting a recent problem I encountered with Pure Virtual Call here:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/Track-Templates-Pure-Virtual-Call-m2933522.aspx#2933522

Sounds similar, but different. But we are both running Win 8.1 and this seemed to coincide with the last Windows update.

Would you care to enumerate the steps that are involved in a 'clear uninstall'?

There's the Melodyne upgrades, Gobbler updates, Addictive drums stuff - so many changes and tweaks...

I really don't want to do that, so I'll probably work around this one and wait and see how the problem develops.

Hi again all!

Thanks for the interesting discussion and all the input.

I don't really blame Cakewalk for this. I've had Sonar running fine since it came out. The only thing I can think of is that this should be related to some Windows update. I noticed I had it set to automatic which I thought was a good idea since windows 8 is relatively new. Maybe this wasn't so ...

On the other had I figure that at least someone else would have the same situation.

I feel the same way. 8.1 is very new, so I keep Windows update running to download, but it tells me so I can control the install, not the fully automatic style.

I always make a system image backup before these, just in case.

It just so happened that the last Patch Tuesday (11/12/13) launched a rather massive 8.1 update that was not a security fix.

It is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2887595

If you expand the affected files in 8.1 and print, you will get a whopping 75 page listing - it is massive.

If this update is to blame - and I'm not saying that it is - we will probably find fixes shortly.

MS surely wants 8.1 to succeed pretty badly.

I feel a bit jealous of all those who stayed with Windows 7, and I would encourage people to continue to do so if their job is tied up with this.

But Windows 8.1 has a much more streamlined kernel and is really seems nice once one gets used to it.

All this is a hobby, toy and a game for me, so I stay on the edge of the ADSR.

Sure!
It's actually easier than it seems and does not take that long. Wish I'd done it earlier myself.

This will remove any effects presets and key bindings you may have made so start with backing them up from inside SONAR, if possible.
1) Uninstall SONAR X3

2) Run regedit.exe
Backup your Registry before making edits (File/Export Registry File)

3) Delete the following Registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3

4) Run or explore %appdata%
Delete or backup the Cakewalk Application data folder

5) Reinstall SONAR X3

So how many people have installed Windows update and have this exact problem?
There were some very necessary updates here. I don't think this is a smoking gun so far....

Thanks, Ludvig.

That seems obvious enough.

For step 4 - the AppData contains stuff for earlier versions of Sonar - probably only X3 appdata should be removed.
